What is the difference in 2.0 engines 2000 - 2011 Ford Focus?
How come they are rated with different horse power?
Why do the 2011 have netter MPG than 2007?.
What are the technical differences, part differences and cpu setting differences?

I owned a 2007 SES and now a 2011 SES engine looks the same to me but obviously the 2011 body is different and MPG is better.

EDIT: dam dude, minus 4 rep points? Who did you piss off? Or who did you give crap information to?
yes they were mad that I said acetone gave me better gas milage in my 2007 ford focus. All I know is that it worked for me and I used it all the time back then. Have not tried it again since I totaled my 2007 ford focus ses in 2009 then I bought a fusion and recently traded for the 2011 ford focus ses. I don't know if I will try it again as it concerns me to damage fuel and engine parts.

Ok the diference that ford made is the intake cam it has 4 sensors mmm I think something with the intake and the exhaust in the 2009+ ses yeah and maybe some ecu recalibration

the TB in the 08-11 are indeed electric(this have a tiny tiny lag in tb responce) vs the cable. the PS reservoir is on the pump and directly in front of the motor on the right of the intake manifold. The intake manifold (I Believe) doesn't have the Trumble flaps vs the 07 down. there are also more sensors in the intake manifold and one going through the valve cover. The heads and block are interchangeable the motor mounts and transmission are direct fit. O minus 1 motor mount depending if its the st 2.3 or not. I would assume the PCM is much better mapped than the older cars giving it its better mpg . I think the tires are the same . if u were to get the ses sports package it came with 215/45/17 tires BUT between the 2 the motors they area bit different

wow, old thread back to life [:)]

Its strange looking at the mpg ratings on the fueleconomy.gov for these cars.

Like from the '11 to the 08 and then form the 07 to the 05. All have the same motor and then the 11 and 08, body style didnt change and same for 05 to 07, yet each gained a 1 mpg higher rating. Subtle change netting higher fuel economy

Bumping this old thread as it seems to best address the differences in the Duratec 2.0 over the years 2005 - 2011. The difference in fuel mileage is pretty significant - a 11.5% increase. Do we still really believe the gain was strictly from changes to engine management and gearing?

I'm coming at this from a different angle. I'm considering a Duratec 2.0 RWD swap and trying to determine what year range would be the best donor. I'd be going after-market engine management so things like the change to drive-by-wire and intake tumble flaps would be irrelevant (none of that would be used). I thought there had been some change to the cams in the circa 2008 time period - yes, no, maybe???

The throttle by wire eliminated the egr system as well I believe.

I recall reading that they were able to increase the MPG for some years by tuning the tumble flaps. I also read that on the Rangers which used to have the tumble flaps on the 2.3 Duratec, gained an mpg when the tumble flaps were removed in later years. Maybe they also tuned the electronic throttle body somehow to improve MPG.
Also, aren't there some SCT tuners which can improve MPG on a stock motor? I think that has to do with ignition timing.
