the mazda has VVT i think.. i know mazda duratecs use VVt while focus engines dont..well atleast thats how it is in my country..guess their finishing off the old stock of the duratecs... should be similar though

 

Different head to support VVT and DISI. Block has incorporated oil squirters. Internals are most likely forged.

 

^^^ It's the same for north american focuses, Mazda's MZR powerplant which is the same as the Duratec has VVT while the Focus does not. That explains the small HP output change plus they may have different compression ratio, Mazda is more a performance expert with leftover powerplants from Ford; For Example (i.e. Ford Edge and Mazda CX-9 uses the same powerplant except Mazda stroked Fords 3.5 V6 to 3.7 V6, both have VVT but uses different compression ratio).

 

Is the trottle body the same size for both the mazda 6 2.3, and the focus. What size throttle body does a duratec 2.3 have stock?

 

Stock is 65MM

 

The Mazda 3 and 6 both use an electronic throttle body, which the Focus adopted in 2008.

 

^^^I dont think so... They wouldn't sell aftermarket 65mm tb's if the stock one was that size. I think the stock one is like 58mm or somewhere around that.

 

Aftermarket throttle bodies sold for the Foci sized at 65mm are for the Zetec motor. All the aftermarket throttle bodies sold for the Duratec are 67mm.

 

I wonder if a MS3 motor swap is possible with the Focus ECU.

 

Probably not. If you are going to swap in the engine, might as well grab the ECU.

BTW Speed 6 and Speed 3 have same engine. Just Speed 6 has little difference in tuning so it makes a couple more hp.

Yes, thats what DISI stands for. Direct Injection Spark Ignition.

 

Also Speed 6's were AWD and more HP then the 3 but still slower and they were only made in 2006 so there is very view of them around

ford 2.3 stock TB: this says 55mm... I'm having the sticky throttle... might be covered under warranty, if not I guess it's a sign that it's time for an upgrade to the 65mm

yes the mazda 3 a heavier but not by much compared to me focus ST. andrei and i both weighed our cars at auto x event last summer

Wouldn't it be a lot simpler to put a Focussport turbo on, & be done with it? I would say its a lot more fun adding a Turbo to what you already have, than trying figure out the wiring. You would think it is cake to add a wreck MS3 motor to a Mazda5. Afew years ago Sport Compact Car did a swap out, & had to run part of the dash in the glove box to get it running, after gutting the whole car! Add eletronics to a swap= big problems, at least for me. No issiues w/ carbs, back in the day.

 

I would be more interested to see if the ports line up on the exhaust manifold off the MS3, I've heard that it does, and other times it doesn't. If it does you could steal a ton of parts off a wrecked MS3, and build your own kit for the focus. Just too bad it runs a K04, which are known to have problems.
