SE vs ST and whatever else you'd like

I would say it depends on your goal... if you enjoy modding and have free time stay with the MK3 and put a turbo kit on it.

Otherwise go with the ST, I like to mod but I haven't much free time around with my job.

With the ST is was a turnkey turbo solution, cost more money but was worth it for me.

YMMV
Or convert it, cheaper than ST and ya get to keep ur car

Unless you move your garage to Montreal...that would be a little bit complicated [grinking]

I have just been debating on saving money for deposit on an st or continuing to mod my car because its mine and I love it

After selling the s4 I'm beginning to miss turbos again lol. The legacy gt wont be nodded much.
I would get an ST, just saying because there is tons of them on ST forums for sale, everything from stock to ones up to stage 3 or more, which I wouldn't recommend...getting one through private sale is much better deal, getting from a dealer, forget it...When I was looking at focus, almost 2 years ago, ST's were not plentiful and prices were sky high, almost double what I paid for my 2013 titanium...it's a much different situation now.

I love the hatchback, its more than the mods and aftermarket availability. I love the front bumper on the st ( yes I could swap the bumper over) but I'm not into making replicas. The conversion is a good idea for sure.

I'm very busy with my family and my business so either buying an st, throwing a tune and turboback on it seems easy. I'm not ready but when the time comes ill weigh out my options of buying a wrecked st and doing the conversion or sell it and buy an st.

It's a focus power thread, let's keep it that eh?
The se vs st thread is more appropriate for you to bash whatever you like.

Bashing what, i hope he proves me wrong, only time will tell

DCT fireworks, it can't handle power, basically advertising your swaps etc etc if that's not bashing I don't know what is. I'm considering cleaning up the thread when I get off work.
Feel free to do all that when the topic is appropriate, I even suggested one to you, but this isn't that thread.

I have no skin in the game, but let's keep it to the NA to turbo kit.

Thats not advertising the swaps, we all know the DCT has a problem, i just wanna see one go boom. Seeing the engine take more power is definitely a nice thing but the DCT handling it is something else all together.... Ive told Tom in the past, if he get it to work, id be happy to sell some of his kits, but I need solid data and testing.

Hmm, sure looks like it^

I would have been fine if you kept it at convert, left out the pictures and told/sent a PM instead.

When you say DCT fireworks, downplay the motor THEN start to push your swaps. it sure doesn't look like you want to know, it looks like you're trying to expand your business (which is fine, but not this thread).
If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck and walks like a duck... It's probably a duck.

The only thing I'm asking is for you to back off, tone it down and play nicely. You're not fooling anyone here.

downplay the motor, no, ive just been around engines long enough to know how they will react, when adding a turbo or initially designed for one.
And, Well im not a duck [deviltail]

I know first hand how shit the DCT is. Read the forum and you'll know. I used to be the same way, thinking the DCT was an okay transmission. Then it gave me one issue, then another issue, and another.

I'm so glad I did the ST engine swap. Way cheaper in the long run. However I do praise Tom for finally getting this going. The only thing that sucks is that as always, when mods come out, all of a sudden the people who said they wanted mods have empty pockets. I hope that's not the case with this kit. There have been 8 ST swaps, so I hope to see that many turbo'd cars soon. Although, if Tom has any sense, he'd hurry up and do one for the manual, because the DCT is truly just shite. I had one for four years, and 2 of them were riddled with issues

DCT you either have tons of issues or very few, not much middle ground..I know someone with 140,000km on his dct, still on original stock clutches..I know another guy, he autocrosses, beats the shit out of his focus and the dct is fine...If mine grenades and Ford doesn't cover it, I will be angry too and probably start bashing it - being honest. I agree about the empty pockets, although I was ready to order a kit, but with the wait for dyno info, by the time it's available, I may have spent the earmarked funds due to unexpected expenses (furnace gone, 5 g's for a new one)

This thread was created from side conversations on a different thread in the forum. This is where you can discuss ANYTHING SE vs. ST related, transmissions, motors, struts and theory.

Proclaim your likes/dislikes as much as you want, that is what this thread is intended for.

Definitely worth the swap. I'll say that from first-hand experience with it. It was a two day job within 3 people.

I test drove a 13' tangerine scream with 10k miles on it and leather recaros. The car was amazing, its spotless and hauls ass. But..... I don't know if the issue was the seats aren't broken in yet or I am to fat because my thighs felt absolutely squished in the recaros.

I felt like my ass was on top of the thigh bolsters and not in the seat. I have had recaros/brides before so I have experience in that style seat. I actually prefer my leather SE seats lol. So maybe an st1 is my preferred choice. Also all the yellow in the seats is a bit bright for me.

I've heard complaints solely from bigger guys (wide not tall) about the seats bothering them.

My friend drives an RS daily and he was shocked when I til him about that. We aren't big guys, he is taller than me by an inch but I have 20lbs on him. Damn beer belly lol. I'm 6'1" 220lbs and I do have naturally big thighs. He said it would be better after I wear in the seats, after all the car only has 10k and it could have been a small driver for those 10k.
