Im looking to gain some hp out of my 2010 ford focus se. I was thinking a cold air intake, exhaust and headers and performance chip? Im not a big car guy so idk much about brands and what does what so i came here. What would you guys suggest as far as brands and even other items i didnt mention. And what kind of hp gains would i see? i only have 1500 so i cant go stupid crazy and get a turbo kit. Any help would be awesome!

From what I read on here, you seem to have it planned out already. As for brands, look at the vendors on here and decide what you want. There isnt much to choose from when it comes down to a few mods for our generation, but there are some choices. Also under this category at the top theres a few stickies with what bolt ons fit what. Look into those.

With $1500 you could get some pretty big gains. Maybe an extra 20-25whp at the end of the day depending on what route you take.

I would stick with FSWerks for the best experience. Otherwise you'll run into a lot of parts that may not fit precisely how you want or work as well with other components you may already have.

fswerks header : 400$
fswerks CIA : 250$
fswerks exhaust : 550$
shipping isn't inclued

after that --» toms tune : 399$ + 20$ shipping

1600-1700$ you should be able to have everything you need and you'll have quality products.

I have a magnaflow 2.25'' and a steeda SRI on my 2005 zx5 SES. I'll add a Tom's tune soon and a cosworth manifold next winter ;)

performance chips

Drunkyoda, are you talking the plug in chips like the jet chips or ECU flashing using like a SCT X3 or superchip programmer? ECU flashing works, it does marvels, ive never messed with the plug in chips but I know for a fact that ECU Flashers work and word pretty darn good too and it only took roughly 15-20minutes to go from stock tune to Fswerks tune.

Looks like your car is stock. I'd add a steeda sri, a Fwerk's exhaust, a dogbone= vf engineering, a reflash w/ a 91-93 octane tune w/ 02 & egr delete. Then add FRPP's 1.5'' springs & dampers. If you have a stick, you'll need a steeda short shifter. If you have some cash left get a header.

ok that makes more sense now like i said i am not so good in auto parts. another question i have though is this even worth dropping the cash into? so i would only gain like 20 -25 hp? doesnt seem worth 1800 or am i just under estamating the changes?

It's all up to you and what you're willing to live with. If you want to push that much power you'll have to deal with the noise and vibration from having a race header and free flowing exhaust.

My plan is to get a Steeda short-ram intake and have Tom do a custom tune for me and call it a day. It'll be good for extra power but it'll be much easier to live with than going all-out.

noise wont bother me at all i got 2 15" subs as well so yea lol but yea i am just concerned i want at least 150 hp out of it without having to go pricy but i think i might be shooting for the starrs without a turbo. in your opinion is 1800 worth that extra 20-25 hp gain? i just dont want to use this money and not notice a gain

I'll be honest, it's a Focus not a Lambo. Our cars are pretty lightweight so 20 whp will make a noticeable difference, but if its maximum speed you're after, you'd be better off selling your car and putting that 1800 down on a used sports car.

A header, 2.5'' mandrel bent exhaust, a set of 224-0010 crane cams, cfm's udp's, steeda sri, a dogbone, a 91-93 octane reflash, w rear 02 senser & egr delete. Next step is a 23 head on your 20. Or a 23 motor installed. You should be able to get a 23 motor installed, w/ a set of cams, header & a reflash for $1800.

Without a tune, you have nothing to gain by using premium fuels. The short ram will (read: should) improve your mileage while the lunchbox delete will only change the sound coming out the back of the car.

A custom tune will optimize the engine for using a certain type of fuel and the improved airflow; Not only will you see more power, you'll be more likely to see consistent gains in MPG under normal driving conditions.

The stock drivetrain is pretty well sorted from the factory. It can always be "better" but if you were to leave everything stock and perform scheduled maintenance, you will see consistent performance through the life of the vehicle.

im just looking for better engine response and accelaration and maybe better gas mileage as well. im just looking to make it just that much better but if you think that 20 hp is a noticable difference i will take your word on it and see what my little focus can handle. thanks for the help mac mogul

So what did you figure out to do?

I just got the Steeda put in today. The improved throttle response and the sound are so much better now. Whats next?

I still miss the good old days before electronic throttle bodies but I must say the improved response does seem to take away some of that disconnect.
Powerstrokes are fly by wire.

Once you do bolt-ons and tune, add in a short throw and rear motor mount, lower it, etc. the car becomes really fun. The response is really nice, even at 135whp. It is noticeable over stock for sure. Loved my car at that power level

Oh and here's a list:

Used CAI/SRI (forums): 100
OBX Header: 250 shipped on ebay
Catback (Trubendz or something similar): 350 shipped
Tuner (FSW or Tom): 400ish
dogbone inserts (ebay): 30
steeda short throw (ebay): 120 shipped

$1250 all in all. you can probably do better if you scout for used stuff on here and FJ.

You can move the bracket that holds the linkage to the shifter up higher to shorten the throw. But do it right & get the Steeda sts. Steeda has killer sts for Mustang's.
