2001 focus zx3 manual tranny 5 speed. On the way to work today i just pulled off the highway and up to the stoplight at the exit. I come to a stop and shifted into first and held the clutch until light turned green. When i went to take off all was normal until i tried to shift. Imediatly i noticed the shifter moves really super easy with no effort. Then i noticed it will not shift out of first or anything. Any ideas?! im stuck at work 75 miles from home! thanks 228000 miles

got it fixed. the plastic end broke off the white shift cable as seen in the pic. maybe been broke for a while and finally came off. Anyway, now thats it fixed i find that it shifts into every gear with zero resistance and no effort. i can shift with one finger. Before i would move up to a gear and there would be resistance then it would slide into gear. Why does it shift so easy now? wasnt adjusted right before?

ok got some miles on it now. Does anyone know how to adjust these new cables? it seems like the shifter goes too far forward in 3rd and 5th. Like i can engauge the clutch and feel it push the shifter back some. Going back into 2nd and 4th there is a nice like wall that stops the shift travel.
