03-04, especially in CA, you might run into Duratec transmissions. Those won't bolt up to the Zetec, and have a different final drive of 3.53 IIRC. You might want to look up the VIN differences so you know you aren't getting a transmission from a car with a different engine.

 

The Zetec version of the Focus used the IB5 transmission.

You are right and have read correctly. Also the Duratec motor also comes with the MTX-75 and this is why you need to be careful in which trans you get as you could get one that went to a duratec in the 03-04 model years which won't bolt up to the zetec due to the different bell housings.

Does anybody else know what is physically different from the ford focus MTX75 manual transmission for the years 2000-2002.5 april & from april 2000.5 - 2004 and hwo to physcially I.D them ?

 

The IB5 was used on the Single Port Injection motor, not the Zetec.

 

My '02 ZX3 was manufactured in 08/2002, so I know the shift tower was different from the earlier model of the year. Is the trans the same for both, or shifter tower the only difference? I bought a trans from an early '02. Mechanic said it won't work. How can I designate the difference?

 

Would the mtx75 fit in a 2015 focus auto ?
