I have had my 2013 Ford Focus w/ 73,000 miles for about a month and a half. I took it in a few weeks ago due to it shuddering and they did a software flash and reset. It drove good for about the first 3 days then started shuddering again and seemed to be a little worse. Fast forward to today I get the call from Ford after I dropped it off 2 days ago and they just told me the shuddering is within spec and there's nothing that they can do. What should I do now?

If you want to tune it, talk to Tom. As long as the mechanicals are within specs, the reviews of his tunes say he works miracles to make the DCT cars driveable and even fun.

If you don't want to tune it, try another dealer. Hope for the best.

If you are told the same, just to make the car bearable to drive, maybe try modifying your driving habits to be more like the car was a manual trans. On the gas off the gas, not slowly easing around or creeping like a fluid driven automatic.

I have the latest Ford update and its horrible , I get high revs before gear changing cold , in sport mode it wouldnt shift till almost red line even at light throttle inputs , MPG was down etc
I made a new Custom Tune for my Focus and all the issues are gone and I am also still on the stock clutches

Is this new update for everyone? I am due for an oil change in less than 1000 miles but my trans is good enough imo, dont wanna ruin it with an update

You don't get updates without asking for them by bringing in the car to complain about an issue. Results of each always seem to be variable, helping some and not liked by others.

You can also end up without the initial issue, but not like the newer "feel".

hmm i guess i will have to think about taking the "chance"

If it's only bad when hot, you need to try and make arrangements to drive it yourself to warm it up before their testing - not often easy to arrange.

Made an appt for This Thursday at 4pm. Gonna drop the car off and get a loaner while they keep it. I explained everything to them so hopefully they can figure something out. I'll drive it hard for about 30 miles right before I drop it off. If they tell me it's within Ford specs then I'll take it up with customer service headquarters because I know it's not normal. The whole car shakes pretty bad on take off and will do it 2 or 3 times before it smoothed out.

Will keep you guys posted with details.

Thanks

Driving it hard on my old clutches made the car act better. Might wanna drive it like a normal automatic and heat the clutches up lol.

Had to cancel my appointment due to an emergency but I have a new appointment set for Friday. This particular dealer told me they do not give out loaner vehicles while the diagnostic is being done even if the car is under warranty. They will only give you a loaner if the repair has to be made. So that leaves me without a car for a day or two while they diagnose it. The dealer I bought the car from gave me a loaner while they diagnosed it no problem.

Either one is taking care of you pretty well, the people with an undrivable car and weeks to wait without a loaner have a real complaint.

With basic warranty not paying for loaners, and only one day covered by the warranty extension for TCM replacement if needed, those Dealers are taking care of you decently.

Is your car a certified pre-owned? Mine is still under the 100,000 mile power train warranty and the 12,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. I bought the car just 2 months ago CPO.
No, I purchased my car new in 2014 and did not pay for an additional warranty from Ford.

I did get the Mechanical Breakdown Insurance from Geico, however, but I'm regretting not paying a few dollars more and getting the rental option as well :p

If you don't mind, how much did you pay for your CPO?

Why aren't CPO dct cars given the rpm clutch test. That should be part of the inspection on dct cars. Selling these broken cars with CPO intentions is not right.

I read that his did pass the most recent test but I'm still assuming they don't test the clutches on cpo dct cars
