I will ask anyway.... why do you need to rebuild it?

anyway, if you open up the glove box, push the sides in (remove anything in there, trust me ) and pull it open even more, you will see the ECM and the BCM. The BCM is the one with the yellow clip that has 5 plugs on it. (mark their locations, btw)

 

I'm Also having electrical problems. I own a 2003 Ford Focus ZX5. I had disconnected the battery when replacing a heater core to avoid tripping the air bags while i was under the dash. When i reconnected the battery the power windows, brake lights, heater blow motor, windshield wipers have completely stopped working. I checked all the fuses and relays in the car and under the hood. They all turned out good. I have even replaced the fuse box.

Before all those circuits stop working, the windshield wipers would turn on when i press the brake pedal and they would kind of stop if i pressed my power window buttons. And meanwhile throughout this process my brake lights would flicker.

So i'm thinking that the BCM has something to do with this and it must of been going bad all this time. It may have just finally stopped working....

Anyway my big question is
Where can i find the BCM on my car, and could i just replace it with another BCM from a junk yard car?

 

Thank you so much for the advise. I am having serious electrical problem with the focus I just bought for my daughter. Symptoms are that all electrical will go out while driving (headlights, radio, a/c, all instruments, engine light comes on, and car will stall-out then restart while driving). I had most of the electrical serviced, and engine fault codes are discernable. I spoke with a service tech that specializes in refurbishing ECMs/PCMs/BCMs. I thought it was rhe PCM that was defective, but he told me these are classic sysmptoms for the BCM. Cost to bebuild is about $180.00, I've already spent over $2000.00 at the local ford dealership and they haven't fixed anything. Time to leave those thieves and fix myself.

 

I have never heard of a BCM going bad in a Focus.


Call someone higher up in the Ford company. You brought the car in to be repaired, not to spend money on parts you didn't need or wrong diagnosis. 'lets try this at the customers expense' is not good business practice and Ford needs to know this is going on.

 

Loose negatives at the battery terminal will cause this as well. On my car, the factory used ring terminals on the 2 small wires to bolt them to the battery terminal. Well, the ring terminals cracked, and only intermittent contact was being made on one. I had to remove those wires to be able to find the cracks- a visual inspection was not enough.

 

Here is something that I want you to try and it doesn't cost anything

Take your battery clamps and try to move them sideways. Clamps may look tight and maybe you cannot tighten them anymore but if you can move them sideways the connection is no good.

Come back if that is the case and I will tell you how to fix that.

Connections are tight. Brand new battery, connectors and wiring. New relays as well.

How would you rebuild this thing?

E.G. an old tube stereo [or whatever]
Check all tubes maybe replace them all with new ones, install a industrial or better yet military grade potentiometer for the volume control, maybe even replace the filter capacitors , clean all switches.

But this module!?
It takes a $10,000 desoldering machine with a technician that is very skilled to remove anything from today's surface mounted circuit cards. Moreover where would anyone obtain the schematics for such devices, Ford will not give them out. It is like have something on a computer mother board go out, while plug in devices can be replaced [CPU, memory] anything else -just toss the thing

in any event - I need to replace the BCM on my 2011 Focus - Mine got wet - flood and can I get this activated using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Programming I've found on line or does the dealer need to get it activated for me?

I'm gonna wind up resurrecting it again to because I believe my BCM went bad as well, we all know the bcm controls all the comfort features of our cars.......lights head unit heated seats etc etc and when it goes bad you'll start noticing stuff.....head unit shutting off and on.....stock or not stock doesn't matter also like the dome lights dont operate like they are supposed to.

 

It's the hatch wiring, broken//bare wires.

 

No, I checked the wiring under the dash and didn't see any bare wires or broken ones.

 

I'm not sure where you think "hatch" is, but it sure as hell isn't under the "dash".

Yeah it just didn't click in my head that u were talking about that. Anyway I'm looking at it and u see a few exposed wires. It's not much but I'm bout cover em up and see what happens
