Sometimes we find that those failures are the result of a loose connection at the back of the instrument cluster. It's fairly easy to remove, and I think there is a link and How-To in the How-To Archive linked in my signature if you need help. I don't think you'll need help though- like I said, it's really simple to remove.

Unfortunately, I think that since the OBD2 port is not working, your problem is more likely to be a harness problem.

Have you added any wiring? LED floor lights? Stereo?

Well the gauges and such in the instrument cluster get information down the SCP BUS, and if you can't get codes ... it all points to a problem with that wiring. Fuse is the easiest to check. Then go back further, make sure the contacts are good, and the wiring behind the contacts, then test from the PCM to the contacts. Somewhere along that line there is an issue.

Okay so I talked to the company that makes my scanner they told me to try amd go into the different features such as abs airbag gem this worked on gem but nothing that uses the can wires checked wires for continuity the low speed wire from obd2 port to back of dash plug was fine the high speed can wire has continuity to the plug but also to ground I don't think it should go to ground but not sure does anyone have a schematic of the obd2 port and how it ties into the dash or any ideas thanks matt

I am having a very similar issue with my instrument cluster. Randomly All of the Lights on the cluster will come on, Speedo & tach will go down to 0.
All of these issues began Last Summer when I also began having blower motor issues. I will be investigating the wiring harness this weekend. I'm glad I'm not the only one with a possessed Ford Focus.

I had the same issue just a couple weeks ago. My instrument cluster had been doing what this thread described, then my ac would start out at full blast then trickle down to insignificant amounts of air i could barely feel, then id leave it off for a bit then it would work normal the rest of the trip.

I have the same issue with my 2006. The cluster quit working, the radio quit working. When i say cluster, I mean the Fuel gauge, temp gauge, speedometer. The trip odometer lights up, but doesn't change. The dash lights work. With so many of us having this same issue, you would think Ford would look at this are offer us some help. Car manufacturers do not build good vehicles any more and don't care. I am tired of begging for help when I have done nothing to the car.

I have the same issues, speedo goes out and temp gauge. Fuel stays on though. lights stay on, but idiot lights all come on. If I tap the dash above the cluster it will go back to normal. Has to be a loose wire? I removed the cluster and checked the circuit board and no damage. Also if I slam the driver door it may work. Has to be a bump can cause issues or fixes. Not sure where to start looking.
