I am just shy of 7000 on the odometer and bought it in April 2014, but the build was in April 2013, and I have not moved since the purchase. When should I expect something from Ford regarding the issue or extension of warranty? Just wondering if they are sending out notification in the "order" the vehicles were bought.

I have a 2014 Focus build information is below. Sounds like I need to get mine in for the fix?

Build Date: 04.11.2013
Vehicle Line: Focus (C346N)
Body Style: 5 Door Saloon
Version: SE
Engine: 2.0L Duratec DI TI-VCT (160PS)
Transmission: 6 Speed Auto Transmission DPS6
If you got this information from FordEtis, your build date is actually November 4, 2013. I know this because mine is 22.11.2013. So your build date is after the cutoff for the warranty extension, as is mine.

Not sure this is true. We have a 2014 Focus built in August 2013 that is currently at the dealer getting the seal and clutches replaced at 9000 miles. Also received the recall notice in the mail yesterday.

In 30+ years my wife and I have bought 7 new cars, all with manual transmissions. Wife wanted an automatic this time! Hopefully it will be the last one.
Let me know how the visit goes. :)

If you decide to take your vehicle in for inspection, please keep me in the loop. :)

Hi guys,

Owners who are affected will receive a letter by mail. Also, dealers are able to see if your vehicle has this Customer Satisfaction Program (this is not a recall) attached to the VIN.

Vehicles covered under this program include certain 2011 through 2014 model year Fiesta vehicles equipped with a DPS6 transmission built at the Cuautitlan Assembly Plant from November 3, 2009 through June 5, 2013; and certain 2012 through 2014 model year Focus vehicles equipped with a DPS6 transmission built at the Michigan Assembly Plant from August 1, 2010 through June 5, 2013.

The program extends the coverage of the DPS6 PowerShift 6 Speed Transmission input shaft seals, clutch and transmission software calibration to seven (7) years of service or 100,000 miles from the warranty start date of the vehicle, whichever occurs first. If a vehicle has already exceeded the mileage limits, this coverage will last through January 31, 2015. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners.

Meagan,

Replacement of the seal and clutches along with a new program took only one day. It seems to be running better already even as it's still in the break-in program.

Double checked the build date and it is August 2013. Does that mean I'm outside the build date window to have the extended warranty?

Should every focus owner get one of these warranty extension letters? Because it seems that a good majority of you guys did, but i haven't received one..

To the best of my knowledge yes, the dealership where you bought your Focus from should send out a letter once you get around 30,000 miles or so, or several months before your 3 yr bumper to bumper warranty expires.

both me & my wife purchased 2014 Focus SE hatchbacks, hers was built on 8/13 and mine was built on 6/14.... she has 6300 miles and a occasional shudder, but not bad at all.... mine is rock solid..... The car wants you to drive it like every drop of fuel is your last.... If you apply throttle very diliberately and smooth when from a stop it helps reduce or eliminate the studder....

Glad to hear it was speedy and everything's taken care of! :D

My information shows the cutoff as June 5, 2013, though I recommend talking to your dealer about this for more clarification.

I just had my car done at local dealer. They did seal, clutches, and reprogrammed computer. 2013 Focus Titanium w/ 12,500 miles. I made sure they were doing job with the new "D" part number clutch. Rides great now, just shifts a little erratically. Maybe it's the reprogram. We'll see how it goes.

Soooo, I got this letter in the mail for my 2012, but I seem to have misplaced it :/

Is there an official copy somewhere online? I'd like to keep a copy in my glove box with my owners manual.

Come to think of it, I don't think I checked my glove box. I bet I already put it there.

So far the new clutches and program are working better than they ever did and the car is actually a little fun to drive, not a chore like it was. Still a little scary roll back when stopped on a hill but nothing that can't be managed with the handbrake. Hopefully this will correct itself during break-in.

It seems confusing when it is said that the extension covers certain 2012 thru 2014 models with a cutoff date of June 5, 1013. I didn't think job 1 or the first of the 2014 Focus production was before mid July or later so why mention 2014 models. June 5, 2014 makes more sense.

Bought my 2013 Focus SE used in late July. I have never received a letter.

My understanding is the issue is not a typical safety recall where all potentially effected unit owners will get a letter. I think it is going to anyone who had problems and brought it into Ford for service. If you bought it used, except maybe from a Ford dealer, Ford probably doesn't know you own it to send a letter anyway.

I classify these kinds of things as "silent recalls" which are only addressed if a customer has problems and comes in for repairs. It is not uncommon in other industries like Power sports or RVs for this to happen as well.

If your car is running fine, consider yourself lucky that you got a good one!

Hopefully if I have this wrong the Ford Reps who monitor this site will correct me.

Ford knows I own the car. I verified my ownership with them a week after I bought the car.

Actually, anyone who owns a Focus between the specified build dates is supposed to receive a letter about the warranty extention. My Focus is in the specified build dates.

Wish I could say that. The trans will be fine for several days, and then for a day or two, start acting up. My work schedule has kept me from getting it into a dealership with a reputable service center to have her checked out.

Hopefully if I have this wrong the Ford Reps who monitor this site will correct me.
I hope one of them does contact me.

Brindfan,

I would get your Focus into Ford as soon as you can. Mine was similar in that depending on my latest driving pattern it functioned differently. After longer trips it was worse. It makes sense to me knowing how a seal leak responds.

My 2014 Focus is outside the date range but I received a letter from my dealer referencing 14M01, saying they had the parts and asking me to schedule an appointment. Nothing directly from Ford.

What was your build date?

Through very thorough testing the last few days I've determined my DCT is in great shape. Various levels of acceleration from cold and warm starts, sitting and rolling starts, on various grades have produced no shudder at all.

I have just over 20k miles, what is the likelihood that it will remain problem-free? Is the problem because of a bad batch of parts, or is it an inherent design flaw that will eventually affect every transmission?

The research I have done here and elsewhere seems like that is the question for the ages.

Some people fall on complete design failure, some fall on incompetent techs fixing them, some people think its a conspiracy against them. Most seem to be fine.

Although the seals on the transmission at least early on seem to be a bad design at least early on with the DCT's.

I think it mostly affects certain build dates. Mine was born on 6/14 and no stutter at all, very smooth, solid. My wifes on the other hand although its a '14 also was built on 8/13 and her's has the occasional studder...
