Not to thread jack, but how about the Ingalls The Stiffy Passenger Side Engine Mount Torque Damper?? it would appear as though set to the softest setting and use with the stock mount it might help with the life of the mount with out going with a poly...

Also does it actually do any thing to help reduce wheel hop?

I have a bad vibration when accelerating at low rpm's (1000-1500 roughly) and especially at takeoff in my '00 SPI sedan... I'm going to assume that this thread covers all foci engines, and a new mount could potentially reduce the vibration experienced in my car? :S

dude.... [hatchet] i know search button is the best kept secret no one on this forum would like you to know about, but at least you could read carefully the same thread in which you are posting.

still tho, we are nice here, so yeah... those "could potentially" very sure are engine mounts, I changed mine on 2001 SPI and worked like charm.
general vibration at low RPM is passenger side mount and at acceleration is from 'dog bone', if those 2 are bad then the third one is busted too for sure, so change all 3 of em.

Power brake/ have someone release the clutch & whatch the motor rock & shake

What is the proper way to check the mounts to see if they're bad?
Power brake it w/ the hood up & watch the motor rock back if atx. You'll feel it if you have a stick. Open up the hood & watch the motor rock back when someone releases the clutch. With the motor on is it shaking a lot= open the hood & give it some throttle a the TB.

The dogbone is just to the drivers side of the Cat and flex junction.

I just bought a 2007 zx3 with 5 spd manual and 65K mi. The engine buzzes and vibrates above idle speed about as bad as an old pinto 2.3L motor. It gets quiet at idle RPM once warm. Stuff in the interior tends to vibrate in sympathy and the rear view mirror is even a little blurry. The noise is fairly obnoxious in the interior and it's no quieter in a coast condition. It frankly sounds like it has a bad motor mount or the exhaust is touching the floorpan or frame, but this isn't the case from what I can see. The exhaust moves around like it's on rubber when moved by hand. The vibration is even worse when cold, but no missfire. It's hard to believe these motors have a counterbalance system because I've ridden in other modern 4 cyl cars and they are quite smooth.

Any advice appreciated.
I have the exact same problem in my 00 focus with an aftermarket exhaust. The old hangers were just welded to the new exhasut so could that cause it or would you say a motor mount? I am not familiar with focuses yet so i didn't know if it was a very common problem in them or not?

My generic car experience told me the exhaust was possibly contacting something because that's the most common issue on the average car. However that was not the case as the Focus design clearly has premature motor mount failure. I found a bad upper motor mount on passenger side. The car turned from a noisy, shaking pinto into a smooth mercedes for $70 and an hour of wrenching. welding old used hangers to a new exhaust will not cause any problem unless they changed the setup and deleted the factory rubber isolator between the exhaust and frame. If it's metal to metal bracketry, it will transmit noise & vibration and it'll likely crack and fail from fatigue. I'm having trouble understanding what you have there.

In any event, I seriously doubt if your 12yo engine mounts are good when my 5yo mounts on a 2007 with 60K mi were bad and so many folks here have the issue more than once lol.

Ughhh don't get me wrong I love my lil putt putt Pedro but the vibration and road noise is insane, thankfully I'm a music junkie and just crank up the radio lol. I'll tend to the cause at some point but I just spent 1k replacing the engine so that can wait, the no interior lights is more annoying lol I read some complicated stuff about gems and Lord only knows, another day

I'd also replace the psm w/ a Ford/Motorcraft one.

same thing 02 zx5 - motor mounts and rotted exhaust hanger

vibration started last summer, had it in multiple times with no effect (they did replace passenger CV joint, dubious whether it was a problem). Place (local Ford dealer) changed out their maintenance crew over winter and this spring someone with a clue immediately said motor mounts. Sure nuff, replaced and it's smooth again. Yum. Broken exhaust hanger between the two mufflers, rotted off the pipe, TBD. I wonder whether the vibration exploited the rot to cause it to fail completely.
