so last month i got a ticket for doing 125km/h in a 70 zone, a ticket fighter told me to see if i could loan a set of bigger rims to throw off the speedo and do a speedometer check to help reduce the fine. So i did the calculations with this http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html.
Basically i found out that the rims wouldn't throw it off enough, only about 5km/h at 100km/h, so i figured i'd used an xcal2 to adjust the revs/mile to throw it off.
Stock is 838 rev/mile
So i calculated that the max the xcal2 would let me set it 900 revs/mile, that i would be travelling at about 7.2 km/h faster at 100 km/h.

My speedo results....
actual speed speedo reads
20km/h - 22km/h
30km/h - 32km/h
40km/h - 42km/h
50km/h - 52km/h
60km/h - 61km/h
70km/h - 71km/h
80km/h - 80km/h
90km/h - 90km/h
100km/h - 100km/h
110km/h - 110km/h
120km/h - 119km/h
130km/h - 129km/h

So this mean to me that ford has displayed the speed on the speedometer almost 10kms slower that what your going. WHAT A WASTE OF $100.
I'm PISSED.
BUT HEY, MY SPEEDO IS CORRECT NOW!

i was boxed in by a semi next to a concrete wall going around a turn under an overpass (highway), i decided the safer thing i could do is remove myself from danger and get out of his blind spot so i would'nt get crushed, cop was on the next overpass point the laser gun at me, he knew what i was doing...

I did'nt get a ticket.. i'm going to court...here in canada(alberta) if your going 50 over the speed limit, you go to court and the judge decides what to give you, fines from $650-$2200 and up to 6 month suspension. this is my first ticket ever, so if i could throw my speedo off, i can knock the fine down to a 40 over, which is a $350, no suspension.

Even if it was off (which most are to an extent) you were still doing nearly twice the limit, I don't think 2-3mph off either way is going to help you much. Good luck though

I think (judging by the original posting date) that this person has already paid the ticket, got off on some technicality, or is currently serving time in jail.

OWNED...by an old thread. LOL! [;)]

So why didn't you just slow down instead? I hate when people try to justify speeding because there was a big semi truck or whatever in the way and you were scared. If you were that worried about safety you would have slowed down instead of speeding up. I think everyone else can agree with me on that one.......

Sucks that you're a fellow Albertan, because I can't believe what I am reading. First, the cops DO read these forums.
Second, what you are attempting to do with a larger set of rims is tantamount to FRAUD.
Third, you got busted-pony up and pay the fine. Don't tell me you couldn't have slowed down and pulled in behind the truck; passing him wasn't your only option.
Fourth, the Crown doesn't reduce tickets any more (AKA plea bargain).
Sorry to come down on you, but like Beretta sez, "don't do the crime if you can't do the time".
Edit-just noticed the age of the original post-any updates on the outcome?
