Why a BIgger water pump pulley ? ?

I was wondering why does the Focus Central udp kit have a bigger water pump pulley? Besides using the STOCK belt.

I actually have this kit on my car, but I have no reason to why its a bigger pulley....

I also wonder if, I took the bigger water pump pulley OFF and got a smaller belt for JUST the crank pulley, would I make MORe power?

BTW, What size is the F/C UDP CRANK pulley? If I can find out the size I can find out the belt I need to use!

ok, you already touched the first point of the bigger water pump pulley, and that is to retain the use of the stock belt. it also has the effect of giving the belt more leverage when turning the pulley, thereby eating up less tq. for underdrive pullies, smaller on the crank is better, and bigger on the accessories is better. of course, UDP's aren't worth much tq/hp anyway, not to mention the potential damage you can cause to your engine without the harmonic dampener on it...not worth it IMO

Let's not start the endless debate again.

I belive that the larger pulley is to reduce the effects of the UDP on the water pump. + It is lighter. In essence it keeps your H2O pump running at full strength

It reallt doesn't make a drifference in perf. Leave it on and keep your stock belt.

Never been proven though.......

I would think the main reason for the bigger water pump pulley is to keep the stock belt. Its a lot easier to buy a stock belt at any auto part store then to have to order and wait for a special size to fit your smaller crank pulley.

ok, mabey I forgot to add this, I will be Turbo'd.

And what abouyt the harmonic balancer? Can I just take that crap off? ( I know of topic about UDP's)
there is a dampener inside the stock crank pulley that reduces engine vibrations through out the pulley seperentine system. It also reduces vibrations at idle, since the motor is an upright 4-cylinder and doesnt have an issymetrical balancing system through pistons like a V shaped motor would.

It doesnt hurt to take it off, and if you take it off for the turbo, it still wont hurt anything. Will allow you to rev faster thus making boost faster.
