Hey yall, Im wanting to iliminate my power steering pump, I know what im doing to the rack so dont even need to discuss that....But ive heard people say that you can use a pully or tensioner from a mazda 3 or something like that... I am removing my ac compressor, and buying the non ac excessory belt but i just need to know what to put in place of the power steering pump since i cant make that a dummy pully easiely.. HELP.. Thanks for any info!

why not just use the pulley thats on there?, fab something up and attach that pulley to it? essentially, you can use any pulley, just have to adjust the length of the belt

Your like the mad scientist of foci arn't you brad! ha ha.. Ya I was trying not to have to make something but i did have tha idea of getting a square piece of steel the thickness of the pump, drill the 4 holes to match were the pump attaches and then make some kind of mount on it to hold a wheel.. Im actually thinkin of trying to use the pully wheel off the ac pump cause the power steering one is pressed into the solid power steering pump. seems harder . thats why i was seeing if something from the mazda bolted up to the power steering pmp location cause I swear i saw somewhere someone said there is one that works.

in alreality, just take the PS pump off, and grind away what you don't need. just make sure its not too much so that its unsteady. i mean, chop the sucker up as long as its still able to hold! if i had a spare, i would!

I have a spare one that the wheel came off so im going to hack that one up to see if i can gut the thing so i can make it free spin with out pumping.. Then Ill make the good one on my car the actuall dummy wheel.. This should be fun. Ill post pics if i can make it work cause im sure others would like to do it if it works...Or not... but i like the control and road feel of no power steering, Its great in the quarter mile for torque steer, and awesome on windy roads but auto cross isnt in my future! lol.

I really wish you guys would just drop this. It's far more hassle than it's worth and no benefit what-so-ever.

But since you won't and I'm at this point right now, cars broke down and can not be driven.

Something like this may work. I haven't looked at all them to see if there is a 4 bolt bracket and what the offset is, but I'll guarantee buying something pre-made will be far easier than adapting something to work.

Here is a 4 bolt one Linky

The A/C pulley idea won't work, simple as that.
Making something to use the stock P/S pulley might work but will cost more than it's worth. Will need the appropriate bearing for the shaft to rotate on and something to seat the bearing into; and you have to size the bearing correctly for loading and speed, some random bearing won't cut it. Don't even think of using a bushing or worse yet no bearing.

No clue. Would have to see them in person. Being I don't work at a parts store anymore they don't let me (or like me) just ordering stuff to look at ... and these may be special order items which means I'd have to pay up front for them, and I'm broke and unemployed, so that ain't happening.

But you could try and figure it out this way,
You know what the A/C bypass kits fit, so find out the A/C pulley diameter for each application. If one is close then look up the A/C compressor. IIRC one of the books (every auto parts store should have) had dimensions of A/C compressors, Ready-Air maybe can't recall.

Odds are that the plates are all about the same size just the pictures make them look smaller than actual. Just look at where the A/C mounts and the bolt spacing. It's about double that of the P/S. And if that's the case I'd go with the cheapest one and modify from there.

I'll probably go through the books myself but I don't have the ambition to do so yet.

Because the setup of the zetec accessory belt... you cant eliminate the power steering pump wheel completely. you can get rid of the a.c. pump wheel and get a belt for a non ac focus, so the only way to completely get rid of the power steering pump is it get a dummy wheel or run power steering. I like it better with out.....makes my arms bigger! lol.

Lol that's pretty epic.

Btw just for the record the Mazda fs-de series motors are damn similar to the zetec. Dohc 1998cc engine, even set up the same way, the same power ratings (though at a bit of a higher rpm)
