Hi fellow Focus owners... pardon me for being an unhappy owner..

i have a '00 ZTS with 63k miles on it.. i'm looking to replace my timing belt. Looking through the search results just confused me more.. [V] [V] [?|]

i found a reputable mechanic that will charge me $200.00 flat to replace the timing belt.. but what I want to know.. how much does the actual belt cost? I was told there was a "cheap one" and an "expensive one"... "cheap one" costing about 35 bucks, the "expensive one" costing about 55 bucks.. whats the difference??

also, is $200.00 a decent price for this labor?...i know its labor intensive...but is $200.00 right?.. the price would also include a valve adjustment I found out I needed...

i remember reading on The Wall Street Journal about it costing more than $1,000 for an Audi...if done by the dealer.. how much does Ford charge on average?..

last Q.. I know 60k miles is average for timing belt replacement..but I read on some other post here..that it was pushed back to 120k.. [eek] ...what gives??..[confused]

Timing belt replacements are ridiculously easy on the Focus.

If you have a Zetec you can get a very high quality one from FS for $45: http://focussport.com/belts.htm

$35-$55 isn't terrible though.

As far as $200 for the labor, a little high but I don't know this guys billable rate. Doesn't take more than an hour even if you are clueless. He is just charging you book rate.
