A kid at my school wants to race me with his 1996 Taurus SHO with a 4 speed auto, im not too worried tho. Has anyone else with an SVT raced one?

You'd be a good match up. Those SHO's run about as fast as a 24valve DOHC V6 that they put in the other non-SHO's. Only difference is that SHO's don't cut out at 110mph. I have a '03' Sedan 5 speed zetec and i stay even with him till I shift into second and he slowly walks away.

not sure that's such a good idea. SHO's have 220hp and 200tq. if anything the auto is probably quicker than the 5-speed (which is ungainly). i drive a manual and auto version on a regular basis and they are both still rapid even with age. the SHO Yamaha/Ford engine is one of my favorites, with a good blend of low end torque and high end horse pressure. that's just my opinion though...

the duratec foci are about as fast a SVT. Partly because of the saying 'There's no replacement for displacement' I believe in the FF Magazine that the 2.3 Duratec was running 16.1 stock and SVT's run 15.9's stock. It'd be very close.

sorry, but the SHO is almost comletely different from the standard 3.0L. the block might be the same, but that's probably it

the older SHO's will beat the newer SHO's even though they are V8's. 96 and above they don't make any manual SHO's from the factory.

Why did he put far cannons on that? They sound so sweet with the mufflers cut off and the tips welded back on.

uh sorry there bud. My mom's car is a 99 Ford Taurus SE with the 3.0 Duratec and my buddy has a 96 Taurus SHO whoever gets the jump stays ahead. It's also the same with the newer Taurus

SHO = 3.4L V8 - 235HP
Duratec = 3.0 DOHC V6 - 200HP

It would be very even off the line, but then he'd kill you. Most of you guys are kidding yourselves. I've raced a SVTF in my wife's Intrigue and it was pretty close. I've also raced the newest style SHO awhile back. It was close till about 30, then I got smoked.

I'd say the SHO more than likely comes out on top on this one.

And also the first gen SHO's engines are completely different than anything put in a contour. That engine was designed head to toe by yamaha.

I thought that in the second FF magazine the PZEV ran 15.9 stock.[confused] [?|]

lol... if its modded they can be pretty quick.

My friend Tat with his S2000 (Intake, exhaust, chip) ran against one thinking it would be anything. The SHO was revving like crazy on him. They gunned it from a red light and the SHO hung with him through 3rd gear lol Tat was pretty damn impressed. Tat pulls about a 14.1 in the 1/4. Probably faster, he hasnt run it with his new clutch and new exhaust yet. That man changes exhaust like he changes his socks

awhile back there was an annoying middle aged woman in a newer style sho, auto and she was flooring it at every light, now i thought it might be pointless to get beat by some idiot woman but after i was sure she knew i was gonna race her i nailed the launch and slowly walked on her up to about 85, if its stock they only pulled mid-high 15s

civichatchs friend prolly ran into a modded one or shifted too early in that insanely high revving s2k

I agree...good friend of mine, his dad has the newest old sho and the thing is fast off the line and keeps pullin. you'll get killed.

Well I hate to sound like an old man but eurosvtgm mentioned racing a "kid" at his school. Two kids racing two pretty fast cars sounds stupid to me unless it's legal somewhere at a track. If that's the case, the 96 SHO was the last year that car was pretty fast. It went downhill quick w/ the bodystyle change and V8. You'd need to be dialed in.

i have raced an sho. they are fast but i started slowly gaining a lead on it around 3rd gear

lol... yeah, it was definately modded. From first hand experience with that guy, he can drive that car better than anyone else i've seen.
