I hope I'm not violating a rule about crossposting, but I put this in a thread I found via search in the Car Audio, etc. forum. I'm just not sure anyone will see it there:
Sync 4.6 was finally available for me (2013 hatchback w/ non-touchscreen MyFord). I downloaded and installed yesterday.
The process is as janky as ever. Even downloading the update is a trial, since the website mixes http:// https://, which newer browers hate. I wasn't able to coax Chrome into loading the full page, but Firefox worked for me. But even in Firefox, I couldn't load the correct directions (I got directions for MyFordTouch). Oddly enough, Chrome on my phone was able to load the correct (but still confusing) directions.
Those directions, of course, still tell you that "Installation Complete" doesn't mean that the installation is complete, so you need to guess when it's safe to turn off your car and yank the thumb drive out of the USB port.
After all that, they still haven't managed to fix whatever causes SYNC to unexpectedly freeze and drop its Bluetooth connection. So instead of fixing the root problem, they have added a "SYNC reboot" option to the menus, so that you don't need to do a full reset (or disconnect the battery) just so that you can connect your phone to SYNC.
Here's the full rundown of what they say is in the update:
