Hi everyone!

Just got my 2016 Platinum Hatch and signed up here. Looking forward to lots of good information.

So one think that bothers be, is the $70 USB hub that needs to be purchased to get the Apple car play to work.

I would be curious to find out what exactly is different inside the old vs new usb hub and if it can be taken apart and hacked...

anyone else thought of this?

The difference is an apple requirement for MFI certification contained on a microchip embedded in the usb hub in order to enable car play. I don't think it will be as easy as spoofing the chip, but ok.

You have to pay the Apple tax if you want to play. There's not going to be a way to trick it, it's a physical micro chip the phone communicates with.

Do a search on different ford dealers parts page and you'll be able to find it slightly cheaper

Not to hijack your thread, I have a 2015 Titanium and, from the brochure for this year, assume I have Sync with My Ford Touch, not Sync 3. The 2016 brochure states Sync 3.

Dumb question, is there any way to configure Sync with My Ford Touch to run Apple Car Play?

Unfortunately as I understand it the only way is to upgrade to Sync3 at a cost in the $2K range for a kit. The other option is to gather up all the parts from a donor vehicle and use internet based knowledge to DIY.
