Hey everyone, new here. Need some help with my brakes! Drive a 2006 Focus zx4 2.0 5sp. Couple months ago my brakes started sticking, causing vibration on the highway and not having to push the brake pedal to stop. Took my wheels off and my front right caliper was bad, so I replaced calipers on both sides along with the pads. Problem was fixed for a couple days then came right back! So we replaced the front brake hoses on both sides. Problem still wasn't fixed so I took it in to a local, small garage to get looked at. He said my front, right wheel was burning 200 degrees hotter so it wasn't the master cylinder or lines. Could still be the caliper or abs (abs light has never been on). Today I replaced the caliper again and the problem is STILL there. Sometimes it gets so bad I have to pull over, turn off my car and pump my brakes so they can release again when I turn it back on. Otherwise I'm stalling coming out of first and the gas pedal to the floor doesn't get me very far. I plan on taking it to Ford to get looked at but has anyone else had this problem?? I would rather fix it myself if possible as Ford charges an arm and a leg. Thanks!!

Welcome to FF

Moved this down to the "Brakes, Suspension & Chassis" section for the best looks.

One odd possibility is reduced gap between the vacuum brake servo & the master cylinder. Without free play there, brakes can be partially applied and start to lock up as heat in the brakes increases. Anything that would let the pedal droop & apply the slightest pressure would do the same thing, don't know how the return spring is set up in the '06.

Anybody messed with the master cylinder or power booster? If the rod in power booster is sticking out slightly too far it activates the master to put brake slightly on. Rod is adjustable by screwing it in/out to suit, you need a bit of clearance there. The master has a small hole in it that must be open at master full back, if rod causes that hole to cover by being too far out, then brake fluid heating up cannot equalize pressure back to master and then somewhere parts start sticking on to drag. Happens as they heat up and worse and worse then. Or, master piston sticking slightly to not fully return to dead zero off.

Look up 'compensation port' on the web.................

2001 Ford Focus-I've had problems with this too..both front brake calipers sticking. Took it to Ford dealership and they said it didn't stick when they drove it. I'm sure they didn't drive it that long. It got worse so we replaced calipers, one brake hose, and had a shop put new master cylinder on and bleed brakes. A few months later the brakes are sticking again, may have been all along and just realized it once the brake pads got worn down too far. Thinking may now try new brake booster and see if that fixes it. It seems no one knows what's wrong with it. :(

Thanks everyone for your help! Took it to Ford and it turned out to be the master cylinder. I wasn't going to have them fix anything but they inspected it bumper to bumper and already had it all torn apart so I just had them replace it along with flushing the brake fluid. Runs like it should now, but I my Russell brake lines just came in so I have to replace them again. :)

CoryDawn25 did you explain everything to them? I personally don't trust dealerships so I made sure to explain every little detail. I got lucky and everyone was pretty chill and easy going at this one.
