The manual doesn't list the time or miles to change spark plugs in a 2012 Focus 2.0 DCT no turbo car. When is the suggested time? Are factory plugs Platinums? Thanks,[drinking]

i believe the manual says 100k miles. I usually do them in my cars every 60k miles.

It's the internet, isn't everything a debate? [neener]

For spark plugs, ever 100,000 miles at a maximum is my metric, and I wouldn't do them before they have 40,000 miles on them unless you have reason to believe they've gone bad.

It's a steal plug into an aluminum block, so a little lubricant is a good thing, just don't go overboard with it, or get any on the electrode end of the plug.

As for oil, depends on a lot of things, driving style, type of oil, etc. But for the MK3 Focus more frequently than 5,000 miles for the NA engine is just wasting money in my opinion (if you're running full synthetic which I believe they come from the factory filled with). And I change the oil once a year regardless of if I've hit the mileage or not. Newer oils resist break down a lot better than old conventional oil does, but if you're driving that little a year odds are you're either not touching the car at all, or doing a lot of little trips, and that's hard on the engine. New oil is cheap insurance.

A spark plug can be regapped easy.
I would suggest CHECKING them and see what they look like at 25,000 miles.
Regap them if they are good with a widened gap. and then decide to replace at 50,000 or not when checking them again.
This is for the home putz..
I would not PAY someone to look at my plugs at 25,000. LOL/
If I was paying, I would just replace them at 50,000.miles.
At 100,000 the plugs are really worn out. The electrode will be pretty well eaten away.. and the gap? hah hah...
If you are cheap though, and just drive the economy car.. 100,000 is fine.
If you like to think you are passionate about your car... 50,000 is when you should change plugs. (and check the gap at 25,000 miles)

As for brands of plugs... This is the same sort of question as oil brands...
If he plug fits and is the right heat range,....

Wrong heat range is like wrong viscosity oil...

Well no not this time. I can't say I've seen, at least for the 2.0 GDI engines any mention of spark plug heat range. Motorcraft, Autolite, ACDelco, NGK, Champion, odd-ball 15 electrode gimmick plugs, who else? No mention of heat range. Be it platinum, iridium, rhodium, palladium, copper, aluminum, gold, silver, nickel, etc. core / electrode, no mention of heat range.

Changed out the plugs at 98K miles and 5.5yrs old.

Very simple, 20-minute job. Hardest part was cleaning the engine block of all crud/dust/sand. Canned air if you don't have a compressor worked fine for us.

Used Factory Ford OEM plugs and a $1 pack of anti-seize. 3/8" ratchet, 6" extension, and a standard cushioned spark plug socket.

^^^^^^ Good video

Well,I said I was going to do them last year but now with just under 40k on the plugs and just about 6 years old I figure I'll do mine before I detail the whole car in May since it's such an easy job.

On my 2012 I swapped them at about 66 months and just shy of 80,000 miles. I guess it was mostly because it seemed like that was long enough. They still looked good, replaced them with NGKs. I guess when time comes to replace them on my 2017, I'll be buying THREE spark plugs. Do they even have 3-packs?
