I was wondering if there was anyway to use the steering wheel to activate siri if your phone is on the dash in the mount? Would like to be able to sent text using siri since my ford sync cannot do text messages.

I keep my phone in my pocket and I just hold the home button on my iPhone and Sync system picks up and I can talk to Siri. Not on the steering wheel, but I don't have to pull my phone out or take my eyes off the road.

Yea i saw a article about vehicles getting siri button on steering wheel, and of course ford was not one of the companies that wanted to participate. I wonder if there is some kind of aftermarket thing you can clip onto the steering wheel. would be nice.

Im not asking to hack the buttons.... i was asking if there is a possible mount of a sort of blue tooth button that will access siri instantly. like a remote...
If you're trying to add a button (either via a clip or some other mechanism) on to the steering wheel that is a type of car hacking/ modification. Considering that this particular "button" idea is only useful for the iphone 4/4s/5 as no other phone uses Siri for anything it is kind of a niche market.

It seems like a bad idea to me, but then again I don't live within the reality distortion field that is tech and particularly apple inc.

Is it even possible to activate siri via bluetooth? If not at present than the idea is null and void as it stands.

I get why you want it, I just don't understand the need for it. If your phone was properly supporting MAP which is a part of the bluetooth standard you wouldn't have an issue with needing to resort to a hack/ round about way of sending text messages via the car.

Just note the problem is not Ford sync but Apple and its proprietary protocols. [rolleyes]

Just do what I said. Just hold down the home button and Siri activates the Sync picks up the blue tooth and you can talk. It is EXACTLY like having a button on the steering wheel except you just push it while its in your pocket, cup holder, etc.

To the two most recent posters: do you understand that a dead thread (over a year old) was revived?

The link in the article provides a date of 08/2013. Let's keep things in perspective.
