Radio Not Working Any More

So I had the dredded hissing and popping noise coming from my 2012 SEL Focus and no it's just stopped working.

I'll check the fuses, but in case the fuses are fine, do I have to buy a new radio?

Is it easy to replace and do I have to program it?

Thank you in advance!

Thanks. May I get the name of this service or company?

Lots of information on this topic elsewhere on this site. I'll summarize here: 1) The issue is hardware-related. No amount of resetting / reprogramming will fix this issue permanently. Turning the whole car (not just the radio) off and on again will often solve the problem temporarily. And no, the issue is not caused by the either of the two multi-pin heat-sinked chips that you'll find if you open the radio up. (I speak from personal experience). 2) I've had 3 stock Focus radios that had (or developed) this problem. For the 1st two times, I bought another used stock Focus radio, which solved the issue for a year or two, before developing the same problem. 3) Ultimately I used a mail-in Focus radio repair service that I found on eBay. This repair has been holding for a few years now. As of July 2023 their ad can still be found on eBay. It was a bit expensive, but still cheaper than buying another used radio every few years. Their service was excellent.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I can’t believe this worked (I found it on Google) but I’m not sure how long it’ll work for.

Power off the radio.
Press and hold the number 6 button and while holding it down press the power button.
Apparently this resets the unit.

Again not sure how long this fix will work but I’m happy no more popping and static noises for now.

This is who I used for my 2012...

Automotive Circuit Board Repair & Parts | AutomotiveCircuitSolutions

Cost me $192 plus $10-$15 to ship the head unit to them. Granted this was back in April, but they had it repaired and back to me within a week...I shipped it on a Saturday, it was back to the house the following Friday. Haven't had an issue since...but it has only been 3 months.

While you have the small screen, I had the big screen with the same issue. One day it was just dead...didn't turn on, blank, nothing. I don't know if this will work for the small screen, but what I did was pull the fuse for the radio and let it sit overnight (5 minutes did not work, needed a longer time). Put the fuse back in next day and it would turn on and work perfectly for a while (a few months anyway). Then it would happen again, same fuse thing, good to go for a while. Ford said it was the APIM and wanted $800 to replace it. I didn't want to invest that much into it, so just kept doing the trick.

Sure, no worries!

The only complaints I have is that there's no AM radio, and the angle is a bit too "steep" so sometimes it's hard to see the screen but overall I'm quite happy with it.

I followed this guy's video and it was a great help as the instructions that came with the replacement radio aren't that great:

It's basically a tablet that offers offline maps via the GPS but you'd have to install .APK files for Google Maps or iGo (some sort of other map navigation program). I haven't had the time to fiddle around with that yet so I've just been using the Apple CarPlay functionality and Waze from my phone for navigation.

I honestly thought I was just going to use the radio but it turns out I'm using Apple CarPlay and Spotify more than I am using the radio.

I haven't played around with the Steering Wheel Learning (that's what the manual calls it) so right now it doesn't. If it doesn't work that would suck, but honestly not too much of a deal breaker. It is a bit inconvenient to turn the volume up or down by continually pressing on the Volume Up/Down buttons on the touchscreen which takes your eyes off of the road.
