Depends on the state. VA dose not allow them but DC and MD do. The problem is if you do get caught a cop is more then likely going to give you a ticket if he see it then just let you off the hook.

They find it offensive to their job because its trying to cheat them. I go with the trusted blinking your lights when you see one. Problem with that is you need to depend on other drivers to blink their lights if they see a cop. I did this today when I was coming home and had seen the cop. Also knew he was their because I work closely with PD at my job.

Also Police Scanners are nice but they will run you about $400+ because they uses Digital Trunking now for security.
