It's the rack. You can try to bandaid it all you want but in the end a new rack is the only cure.

 

I saw it in the back of my mind, but wanted to try to make this one last a little longer.

Did you replace just what was in the power steering reservoir? If so than that is the reason. You need to cycle it until you get all old fluid out.

 

Between 5/23/09 and 5/24/09 I cycled the new stuff in and sucked the old stuff out via the baster meathod, I did this three times and made sure that the stuff I put in there the 3rd time was as pink as the stuff that came out of the bottle.

that is strange, I also had moaning issues. I went and got powersteering fluid also it said on the bottle that it helps with ps noise. Got that in there, it was colorless, it didn't get any darker since. Noise is gone. That was a year ago.
Before that my ps fluid looked like yours on the left.

 

Huh, that is interesting, I'll try that and see what happens. did you drain your PS completely, or did you use the baster method as well?

cycled it, took old one out of PS reservoir, put new in, turned wheels, got old one out again, put new in like that multiple times until it was all clear.

There is a TSB on the "O" rings that seal the PS res. to the pump (newer design apposed to the 00-04 design) I it was allowing air in the system and thats where the noise came from. That could also be the point of contaminant.

 

Thanks, I did notice that one of the hoses on the pump seemed to have an expically large amount of black "crud" on it, and looked kinda wet. I'll have to look into that to see if I can get that o-ring to re-seal the pump to the hose.

after auto crossing on the 24th my power steering started acting up, became really stiff. i cycled out the fluid w/ new stuff via syphon about 6 times in the last few days. but hasnt helped at all, the fluid kept coming out in a dark purple. my svt also had really stiff powersteering feel so i just took it to the dealer today, they said i need a new rack and pinion and p/s pump. warranty ftw!

 

My steering hasn't become stiff yet, and if it does I've REALLY had it because my warranty ran out this past Feburaury.

yea w/out the deductible the guy quoted me for 449.99 for the rack and pinion and 149 for the p/s pump
