Awesome Jose! Jealous of the hood vents.
Thanks, Bill! I was a bit nervous when I saw the grinder going [ohcrap]
My amount of want for hood vents is currently overpowered by my lack of want for a grinder meeting my hood.
I have the same feeling lol
Much sparks. Very cringe.
I have same feeling as you guys. Want hood vents but no want saw my car [bawling]

A hood with correct vents is coming [thumb]

Didn't get any pics, but dynamatted the front doors and upgraded the speakers to polk audio db6501. I've never done audio before, I'm more into spinning wrenches. It was a lot of fun though. Took forever, lots of little issues the whole time. This was my first mod on the focus, and I am really pleased with the results. Already have everything to dynamat the floors and rear doors and swap the rear speakers to db651s.

Can you give some details on the install and the issues you had? My OEM's got wet in a flood, and I would really like to find a direct replacement but upgrade in quality.

ok
There are several threads in the audio section that discuss upgrading the stock stereo in the mk3. I highly suggest reading as many as you can find to plan your own upgrades.
I found http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=324097 this link extremely helpful, and am pretty much copying him, since this is my first time doing audio work. I am more into wrenching [wrenchin] He also has several links that helped him out. One of them has a step by step guide to removing the door panels which saved me time and frustration.
For the door speaker, everyone takes the stock speaker and cuts out the guts, and leaves the frame. Then drill holes and bolt in your replacement speaker. If you have a 4 speaker system you can solder the new speaker to the stock plug on the frame of the original speaker (which you will be using as a mount) and you can utilize the stock wiring, and not need to cut the factory wiring.
I have the six speaker stereo, which requires some wiring for the crossover. The tweeter and mid in the door both have separate plugs. The stock stereo doesn't seem to use a crossover so the signal to those plugs is the exact same, and high/low frequencies are not filtered out. I ignored the plug for the tweeter and just left it dangling. I cut the plug off the wires to the woofer, and ran wires from them to the cross over (NOTE: both wires are black! If you peel back the tape, one of them will have a small white mark on it. That is the + wire). From the crossover I then ran wires to the tweeter and woofer. I used butt connectors for everything, as I have never soldered anything before, and didn't think this was the time to learn.
The tweeter I got did not fit into the stock location at all. Lots of guys have reported being able to cut one of the clips that hold the stock piece in place off, and that they can then fit the replacement tweeter. I ended up cutting all the clips, shaving lots of material off, supergluing the tweeter to the bracket, and the using hot glue to provide more contact points and absorb shock (door closing, bumps in the road etc). It's super strong and I am confident it won't ever come apart. It looks horrible, but the plastic grill cover on the door hides it all, so unless someone is pulling apart the door it will never be seen. New tweeters will probably require me going to a junkyard and getting a new bracket.
As for the dynamat. WOW Just doing the doors has mad a big difference. I commute and use my bluetooth a lot. My brother said he can't even hear road noise in the background anymore. I don't have to yell to be heard. The mids have more punch to them. Well worth the time and sliced finger. [woot]
After you pull the doors, and foam cover, you will see that there are two open holes. I initially covered them with dynamat to fully seal the door, but ended up having to cut them out, as the door panel goes into them, and without those holes you won't be able to get the door panel back on. I also applied some dynamat inside (not much) but any scraps I had, to reduce some vibrations from the door skin.
I am really excited to do the rear doors and floor. Won't have time this week or next though. Hopefully I will be able to do some more work the following weekend. I will get some pics of that.

Thanks so much for your informative reply...I will do a little more research. I have the Sony 5 speaker setup. Was hoping to just replace the door driver...the tweeters are good. But probably can't do that...

Yes but as much satisfaction as you got from customizing the installation to make it work, I would have an equal measure of frustration and misery. I need something that would be a physical OEM replacement if possible.
