Operation Unoriginal: Replaced my Focus With a Focus

After 8 years and 165k miles (95k from me), finally sold my 2001 ZX3. It was my first car and it lasted me through senior year of high school, all of college, traveling all over New England and has been nothing but dead nuts reliable. When I took it home back on 1/25/2005, changing the oil and putting on an intake were hour+ long projects...the last "weekend" job done on the car before I sold was replacing the entire rear subframe, speed sensors, bleeding brakes...etc. In short, this car has taught me A LOT.

Some pics from over the years:

Some of the first mods on the car within the first year. AEM plug wire cover, FRPP wires, SVT headlights and grill:

8 years and one day later on 1/26/13...I picked up the new Focus. 2013 OW ST, ST2 package with moonroof and nav, blue insert Recaros.

Since I was cleaning the ZX3, thought it was a great time to do the first hand wash and wax on the ST. Wheels will need to be seriously soaked and cleaned when they come off for the spring, but good enough for now

No mods yet... but Randy and the FSWerks crew will be hearing from me soon :)

Thanks man! I do too.

Nice. I hope mine gets me through college aswell, but I'm not sure I could part with it afterwards...[bawling], unless I couldn't afford 2 cars.

Edit: also, that interior makes me jelous. (<thats terribly mispelled)
Thanks! I didn't want to either, but no room or time for three cars. If I didn't have the project car, then I would have kept this one and turned it into my autox/weekend car.

You treated the blue one really well. And, she responded in kind. I noticed that the blue one leaving your driveway for the last time had the right brake light "out". my 2¢
Thanks, definitely did. Being proactive with maintenance and oddly, owning it that long I never hit the rev limiter once [dunno]

Turn signal was on in the last pic and just how the camera caught it [;)]

Wow, thank you for all the kind words! I loved that ZX3, but having three cars is just too much and it would be great to see someone with fresh ideas get to work on the car and do the mods it always needed (SVT brakes, LSD, etc).

Thanks dude. Merkur is getting a new turbo this spring :)

Awesome ZX3 and a great upgrade! Hope to see that thing at the UCONN car show!
Hope so! Either this or the XR for sure!

Wow your last MKI looked great. I have a hard time parting with my SVTF. So, I am just going to get another ride. I bought an SUV a couple of years ago. And now am thinking about another ride by end of summer.

That ST definitely looks tempting.

Yours looks great. Congrats on the bump. And still in a very reliable ride.

Thanks!

Finally had a chance to change some things.

This is actually my first FSWerks product...in 8 years of Focus ownership. Really impressed. Fit great, great install directions and very high quality parts.

Thanks!

Hardest part was getting the airbox out. It really wasn't too hard at all, just need to be patient when removing the shift cable and when tightening the allen screws from the bottom.

80 mile trip including some traffic, highway cruise and sweeping back roads. Double the power of the cold car and 3-5 more mpgs? Yes please.

Started replacing the stock worm gear clamps with t-bolts clamps. Had a couple spares that fit, ordering the rest now. The OEM worm gear clamps were very loose and the couplers were starting to slip off the pipes.

Have you any experience with either piece of hardware? It really comes down to preference more than anything. Both have good tuners writing tunes for them and you'll get the same end result from either.

Personally, I'm buying the Cobb AP from FSWerks. That gives me access to the Cobb tunes as well as Randy's tune. Randy tunes on the SCT device too, but I want the Cobb hardware so I can use AcessTuner Race. ATR allows the end used to modify (open source) maps for free and create your own. SCT does not and I want the ability to play around. That is the big deciding factor for me. If you never plan on playing with tunes then both are good pieces and will give you the same result.
