Hello,

My 2005 Focus ZX4 has been making an abundant amount of vibration noise for quite some time now. I've had the right mount replaced, but it didn't help. I recently had two different shops inspect and they both said the passenger side mount was shot. They both want about $300.00 parts and labor to change it out. From what I've seen, replacing this mount seems like relatively simple job. Is $300.00 right?

Right mount = Passenger side mount, so your post is a little confusing.

If the replacement was a typical aftermarket one, those are mentioned often here as not lasting long or not helping much with the vibrations.

Price looks in line for full price Parts/Labor. Discount Ford part & do it yourself could cut it almost in half, but you'd need the tools/place to do it so it's not an option for all.

Luck

Sorry for the confusion. I meant that we replaced the left mount (driver side) and needed to replace the right side (passenger side).

Looks like we'll have to bite the bullet and have them do it since we haven't got the tools to do it currently. Thanks for your help.

I just had to have all 3 engine/transmission mounts replaced. Total cost parts and labor was $550. I was not thrilled, but had no choice....had been told the noise came from strut mount bearings, so had been continuing to drive while ignoring the noise. It got to the point where the rattles and rumbles got worse and coming from more places in the car, and it had to be fixed. Amazed by how much quieter and more solid the car feels now.

I replaced the mounts on my zx3 the other night and it took about an hour. the passenger side one is the most difficult as i bought just the insert and i had to bend the tabs. i used a vise and some channel locks. the transmission mount was straight forward unbolt, bolt back in. the torque mount was the same way. do each mount one at a time and support the motor/tranny with a jack. i did just vatozone replacements (minus the PSM was ordered from ebay since autozone only carried the entire mount at 130 bucks... blah) and it was like driving a whole new car afterwards. Cost was mid 20 bucks for each mount.

Got the car a little cheaper cause of the "end of the world" vibration
bought passenger side mount from ford 109$ and took 30 minutes to install

rides very quiet now--still I wonder wether I should change the other 2
my thinking is all that extra vibration could hasten the death of the other two
hoping I can use aftermarket for other two
has anyone had sucess with aftermarket mounts for tranny and rear mount?

I liked stock passenger mount with poly inserts in the rear (dogbone) and a Steeda on the top of the trans. Had a poly pass side too for a while and it was too much. yrmv of course

Grab a set of poly bushings for the dogbone and press them in. Thatll make the most improvement for the least $$. Depending on how that sits with you either do a stock upper trans or poly

EDIT: if you mean aftermarket as in a non-ford, stock styled replacement id take the chance on those. Theyre rubber vs the passenger side being fluid filled so theres less to mess up

The Vibrations are most likely 99% motor mount related. Its best to replace all 3 at once and use genuine motorcraft parts, The knocking sound could be related to the mounts as well or something else. You won't know either way until you get some new mounts in.

Hey guys, I've been looking at the motorcraft website and I found one the engine mounts. 6038 is the part number. I searched the the motrocraft site and this one but I can't seem to find the correct part number.
I did check out the VF rear mount and honestly also checked out the ebay parts including rock auto.
After hearing about after market stuff on the mounts I decided to go oem and leave it alone. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

I have the same car and blew mine having fun with all of my power upgrades. I paid $100 parts and labor for a stock one, but that was with my friend doing it as a side job. Your price of $300 is kind of high and it's not a really complicated repair. You might want to use polyurethane bushings if you're driving it hard and modifying it because they will last longer and are a lot more durable.

I replaced all three of mine myself no problem replacing passenger side motor mount
drivers side trans to motor mount and the dog bone one straight back of trans motor mount for about $300. dollars for the parts. already had the tools . I do a little work on my 2007 ford 2.o zx4 and my wife's 2003 Hyundai. after 40yrs of tinker around on my cars can do a fair job but now don't see to well. also have large hands the cars these days have very little room to work very little wasted spaces.

$33 for what?

For anyone/everyone else looking to save money on engine mounts, please read post#2 of this thread.

When I bought my 2004 (back in 2013) the first thing I did was try and save money on new engine mounts. I did save money! -and bought cheap motor mounts. These new cheap-ass mounts sucked & did not last long at all.

My next step was to do what many FF member's recommend. Use Ford (OEM) engine mounts. Period. UNLESS you are in a performance modification world; then Poly-type mounts are for you! But these mounts cause more vibration than the OEM mounts. Pick your medicine.

Ford/OEM mounts = less vibration.
Poly mounts = track & performance cars.
Cheap mounts = short life & more vibration tomorrow or soon.

I paid about $200 (?) for a set of all 3 OEM mounts using Tousley Ford (White Bear Lake?) by phone & mail order.

BTW - this is an old thread. There are many many old threads on this topic.

Cheers!
