Modifying stock exhaust

Got a 2000 ATX with the Zetec, Thought about cutting off the first muffler (with respect to the manifold) and leaving the 2nd. I don't exactly like not knowing whether the car is running or not, and figured it might help make a little more power. But wondering if anyone has ever done this and how much louder it made it?

Believe it goes resonator, muffler, lunch box. Most people cut the lunch box and then rout it out the back from there. That usual give the bump in noise mist people like.

The lunchbox is the resonator. The stock system only has a muffler before the axle and the resonator at th end of the exhaust otherwise known as the lunchbox. Most aftermarket companies move the resonator to the middle of the car which would eliminate from having it at the end of the exhaust.

and it wont really give you any increase in power. you will only get an increase in power if you actually increase the diameter of the exhaust pipe or remove a major restriction like the cat.

so then there are two mufflers on the stock exhaust between the front and rear cross members? and then the Resonator as the lunch box. Thought there were two resonators and 1 muffler on the stock.. learn something new every day!

Its been a long time since I have seen a stock exhaust... it seems like on some peoples pictures they have another bit between the 31632 flange and the 4775 muffler... must be seeing things.

All I know is this is what mine had looked like on a stock Zetec exhaust. Now I know the SVT one has an extra resonator in the mid-section, so that might be what you're thinking of. But it also has a lunchbox as well.
