Key programming

Hello, I'm new here. I hope I'm posting this correctly.
I am a new 2105 Ford Focus S owner.

I wanted one of the flip out type keys (switchblade key) and found several available online. I decided on this one.

Keyless Entry Remote Flip Key Fob New Replacement Ford Focus 4D63 80 Bit | eBay

The seller claims it works with the model i have and insists that they have sold these keys to other 2015 Ford Focus owners who have had success programming it.

I followed the instructions, had the key cut, but it will not program to start my car. I took it to two Ford dealers who say it won't work on my Focus, Only Fusions.

The second ford dealer DID get the buttons to work, but that doesn't help start the car.

I'm hoping the seller is correct and I'm not doing something right.

I've read that the car must be driven a while and the key programmed after the drive and without opening the door. So far that hasn't helped either.

The key cost me $37, the cutting $48. Am I SOL and out $85?

Thanks for any help.

-Steve

P.S. in addition, I own a 2013 Ford Transit Connect which I understand is based on the Focus platform. It is my hauling machine! [:)]

... According to the instructions, it requires two already working keys to do it.
Right, just like my 2004. The 2015 process is unknown to me, but here is a easy video for you to see how us older Focus people do it. Same or similar for you... or what?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oJXWE_SKvM

You can start a 2004 with a cut and non-programmed key IF you hold a programmed key "head-to-head" during start. So....

If I was you: I would buy another different or similar style key and do not cut it yet. Follow programming steps again and hold the uncut key head-to-head with the cut (non-programmed) key during programming. If the process is done correctly, the uncut key will program. This will prove the programming steps are being done proper/successfully AND prove the cut key is incompatible or dead.

If the 2015 does not do the head-to-head trick like my 2004 did, you will have to break down and cut-it, and re-try the programming. Buying/having a total of 4 PATS keys is not stupid. It is a great security blanket.

What im saying is since you didnt purchase through ford dealer they wont help.
That is not true, -or only true if the Service people are absolute total but-holes. They make money on both, the key and the programming. Plus, 99% of them want to make you happy when they can.

Finally! I got the key working!

After try after try, I finally went to the second dealership on Sept 23 to have them program the key. They couldn't do it right then and said I need to make an appointment. "Ok, go ahead", I said... They didn't have an opening until Monday Oct 5! [80?]

Very well, ok...

In the mean time I got brave. After removing the battery cover, I noticed a small philips screw. Removed the screw and popped it apart.

I see a circuit board, the blade and flip/button/spring assembly. Hmm, I pull the circuit board out, and underneath, out falls a piece of plastic. "Whats this?", I thought.

Well, I started to reassemble it and wondered where that little piece of plastic belongs. I could not find any decent spot under the circuit board for it.

It dawned on me that it just might be the RF transponder chip. The only spot it fits comfortably is up by the flip-key assembly. That is NOT where it came from.

I reassembled the key and gave yet another whack and programming it.

Holy crap, it WORKED!!!

I now have my key working!

I suppose the trasponder position inside of the key is important! It NEEDS to be in the little nook next to the key flip assembly!

The only bad part is it rattles. I guess I need to disassemble it once again and insert a small piece of foam or something to cushion it.

Bothersome piece of plastic!
