Insane Highway Swaying

My car has a significant, scary amount of swaying when i'm going above 50 on certain freeways. If the road is brand new it doesnt seem to sway, but on several freeways in Los Angeles with older roads my car violently sways left and right as i'm driving fast.

The reason why I made a new thread instead of adding to the steering TSB thread is because my car does not drift to the left or right lanes, it violently sways.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to take it in to the dealer soon but I want to be specific so they don't just give me the lane drift/steering TSB.

What I've noticed is that if the road is starting to get slightly rutted from traffic and my car is in the groove - it drives fine. But if I drift a little to the left where I start climbing the side of the rut - the car makes an abrupt left turn (pulls pretty hard on the steering). Happens in the other direction, too.

And this has been going on before and after I had the steering wander TSB applied. I'm not sure what's going on, but it can be quite unnerving if you aren't ready for it.

do you have a rear sway bar? are your tires properly inflated and balanced?

That's the problem. I found this out later. Ford uses a great tires on the sport wheels. The problem is they didn't want to put the usual 225-35 tire. Very thin, but great for handling. The 235-40 ford uses is your problem.

The swaying only happens to me when the road is uneven. I take the same route everyday and it happens in the same area. Lol. I jumped the gun on my post. Oh well! I kept the tires and deal with it. The roads aren't bad here in Tampa. it hasn't been scary swaying as you say. Roads must be sh!y there???

Hi, you referring to the Michelin PS3 235-4's? If so you are incorrect, there is no tramlining I have ever experienced with those tyres. Some tyres can cause it at speeds below 50, such as the Conti's, I suggest having the tracking checked..

Yes-me too!! It's only on grooved highways. It's like quick wiggling fron side to side. I have the 18" wheels and was curious if that might be the issue. I have over 9000 miles on it since I purchased it in mid September 2011 - so it doesn't feel "dangerous". It's just another quirk that gives it personality. If it gets worse or it causes me to sway out of my lane - well that's another story.
