Wasn't this the premise of an episode of Seinfeld?

For the Focus, when it gets that low I PLAN on only having 1 gal. of "useable" fuel, and really haven't bothered to push it to see EXACTLY how far I could go.

Done that before by carrying a 5 gal. can to fire one up again when it dies just to see what is ACTUALLY useable, but it is a LOT of work to plan that experiment so you don't get stuck in a bad place when it dies....

Fuel injection has the annoying habit of dying COMPLETELY when it runs out, and needing quite a bit of fuel & time to get running again. totally unlike a carbureted vehicle that you can always get a LITTLE more out of when it "sputters..

Only happened to me once. I was coming back from Kansas city to Colorado Springs on I-70. I planned on getting gas at about 1/4th, but I kept pulling in to closed gas stations. Then the gas light came on, I didn't know how far a gas station would be that was actually open so I was doing 25-30mph on the highway. Finally I came to Ft. Riley of all places to get gas. By this time I had done 45 miles with the gas light on. I would not recommend trying this at all for reasons already mentioned in previous posts.

i went once 70 miles when my light came on. I had no choice I did everything to conserve fuel, rolled down hill with gas off peddle and every other fuel sipping idea like no faster then 55, when I was driving from Denver to Vegas I passed a gas station thinking at 1/4 tank I had enough to get to next one.. well the next one was closed for xmas. I had 72 miles to next one with tank on E in Utah I think it was a Xmas Gift from my car that I got to the next station... since going back would have been 50ish miles and was not worth the extra 100+ miles I took the chance.

If you gas gauge does not work and light is always on???

I believe most vehicles have the light turn on (when functioning correctly) when 10% of fuel is left... on a 13 gallon tank that's 1.3 gallons.

Have never tried. But as you know the 2002 SVT has a 13.2 gallon tank. Usually when my gas light comes on I need about 11 gallons to fill it. Is it bad to drive until the low fuel light comes on? Or if you get it during that time it is fine. Remember though the less gasoline that you have in the tank, the better MPG you get. So it can be a fine line.
