Ive noticed I have a very hard time driving the SVT slow, like normal daily driving. Just when I want to shift is when it really wants to start pulling hard. For normal driving where do you shift at?

between 3 and 4K for "normal" driving - although 5K gets hit a lot, and on ramps just BEG for redline!

I hear ya - especially HERE in Virginia!

SORRY, A BIT OF OFF-TOPIC WANKING HERE:

I got a statutory "reckless driving" (for 60 in a 4-lane 35), which as you probably know (and I didn't) is more than $1,000 over 3 years - but lucked out big-time in court when the cop lost the forms he needed, and I was free to go.

Point being: stay under 20mph over any posted limit (and below 80 anywhere) in Virginia, and you'll avoid statutory reckless (for speeding, at least).

I almost ALWAYS speed, but I am more vigilant now about not speeding TOO much (no more than 15mph over); except for on-ramps - then all bets are off! SVTF, baby!

I'm not even a young punk anymore - I should know better.

Always between 2500 and 3000. Even getting on the highway...unless I'm pressed to make a move into a gap.

i shift at 3k in every gear under normal driving.

i dont leave 5th gear on regular streets. there is no need. the speed limit is 50 and im doing 55 by 5th if shifting at 3k...so it works perfectly.

i used to speed a lot and i realized its because the car would bog and feel like it needed to be pushed if in 6th on streets so i just dont shift into 6th anymore. it works perfectly. lol

its impossible to drive slow... its like the car is asking for more and more... i usually shift around 3k on normal driving...

bobkat3999, I live in Chi too, what part are you in? Back on topic, I do have a hard time driving my car slow as well....Unless I'm on 94 going home from work, then it's pretty easy...

I almost always shift around 3000.

There are a couple exceptions (I'll run 2nd out to 60ish turning out of my neighborhood onto a 55MPH rural highway), and sometimes on on ramps I'll let her out a bit, but normally it's 3000.

Oh, and there's a spot on my commute with a stop light that turns into an interstate across the intersection. If I'm "lucky" enough to hit a red light there I'll open her up a little and scoot away from the light.

shift at 3k? no way dude... this car is not grandma's car and I will not drive it like it is. I'm not redlining it but I do wind it up into the right rpm range... 45-5K rpm on a regular basis. Sitting in stop and go traffic is different, I don't wind it up quite that high.

The car doesn't start pulling until 4K, why would I want to shift before I get moving?

agree and this is also the way I drive it, but if your looking to save gas I find that you keep the RPM's under 3G's for the most part you'll be getting the 27MPG on the sticker, if your like me always winding it out you'll get the 23MPG's on the sticker...

u kno, i dont think u have an ORP or cat delete, but i do, and if im going fast i can be heard from distance hahaha, when i first got the car (3 months ago), o m g... felt my foot so heavy... like if i had soldier boots or sometihng haha.. i try to slow down since the car uses some gas to be 4 cil haha. LOL the guy who has a yellow car.. thats why u get owned.. the yellow color haha.

I drive the way I drive and get 25mpg pretty regularly. I have the stock exhaust so it's not like I'm blasting the neighborhood every time I wind it up. The short ram intake is kind of loud though.

I don't wind it up in fron of the cops though. but that's the great thing about driving an SVT focus, unless the cop knows what it is he'll think it's a regular ZX3... sleeper action.
