getting fed up

As much as i love this car. Lately i have been getting really fed up with it. I keep asking myself "is it worth it?". After my BBK install which went fine really, i had alot of alternator troubles, took it a shop that was slow but got it done, ended up back in the shop 2 days later cause ignorant tech put old oil filter back on and was pouring oil out of bad O-ring. Well seemed like i was in the clear from there. About 1/2 a week ago, i started my car and it just plain died. Spit sputtered and died......ummmm wierd [???:)] ....So i give it a sec, restart, and its alil shaky but then idled fine after about a minute. So im thinkin thats alil odd, never done this before. 2 days later after i come home from work and go to leave my house about 30min later, start it up and the same thing. Now this ONLY does it after the car has been running and warmed up and restarted not much time later. After it sits over night or after sitting at work for awhile it starts fine. Im replacing the fuel filter and got some of the good motorcraft plugs im putting in this tuesday in hopes that helps or cures the problem, im basically out of money at this point and running very low on patience with this car.

It sounds like it isn't getting much fuel or you have VAC leak. I had my problem today when i did my 2000 Ported Intake Mani Install. I forgot to hook a line up on my the bottom of the intake mani and the car ran rich as hell and wouldn't idle for crap. Once it got up into the higher RPMS it ran fine. Let off the gas and it was idled like crap and eventually stalled. Hooked up the Vac Line the properly and it idled fine. I would start there to make sure your getting everything it needs. Do you have an X-Cal 2 that you can monitor the fuel trim and see if there's any codes? I had 1 today that didn't throw a check engine light but was in the computer.

I'm agreeing with Disco. Check around where the alternator was installed, possibly some old hoses that cracked from being moved around.

To test the fuel pump: turn the key to the on position and listen, if you hear the pump running for more than 10 seconds, it's probably going bad.

This really belongs in Technical chat.........or For Sale... LOL

Seriously, I hope you fix it and have no more problems bro.

thats a good idea cause i have CEL right now, but its for a bad 02 sensor bank 1. Im goin do the fuel filter and plugs and see if its still running bad. If it is, well i donno then cause im runnin short on money. would like to have it dyno tuned soon.

If the code says too lean, then look for the vacuum leak. The computer it stupid, it only knows that readings are is messed up, not what the cause is. If the code says too rich, then pull your spark plugs and check the gap and plug condition. If you're running short on money bro.... figure out the problem before you go throwing parts at the car. Of course fuel filters should be changed every 25k miles-- however, most people NEVER change them, and rarely have running problems caused by old fuel filters.

Im goin check for vac lines tommorow, see if i can find anything. Even if i find the problem, my fuel filter is long over due for a change and new plugs wont hurt anything.

I get that same feeling at times, this car has been a love/hate relationship...more love than hate, but it still has gotten under my skin at times. Glad to hear that Fuel Filter helped a bit, I also concur with the VAC lines. I sure would miss seeing your boss ride around the forums! [thumb]
