mayday!! mayday!!! foci down!!!

was driving to lunch today just putting along. stopped at a light. went to take off and out of nowhere a HORRIBE noise from the trans area. no clue what is up but shortly after that the clutch will now longer disengage. limped it back to the shop and put it on the lift. clutch in no noise. clutch out no noise. but releasing the clutch halfway... horrible grinding noise. so i'll be pulling the trans tomorrow to see what the hell happened :(

I guess the track outing is a wash for this Saturday. bummer

Time to ditch that dual mass and go with a zetec LW FW and clutch. I think that works.

Wouldn't doubt is a pad on the clutch let loose or tore a rivet. I'm sure the bottle adds a lot of heat to it.

It doesn't sorry. The spline count on the disc and input shaft are different. Now I did find a clutch disc that could be substituted to fit the Getrag spline count. But I'm not sure on the clutch height compared to the dual mass unit so I wasn't going to spend money on trying to fit a zetec light weight flywheel with a different disc and find out it doesn't work. I just know that it is a possibility but just like turbo's for MK3's it's all talk since it cost money to see what works.

i don't have a dual mass. I have a spec stage 3 with a aluminum flywheel...

but its not looking good guys. got to shop and there is a puddle on the floor coming from bell housing. I think its trans fluid so maybe cracked the case??

getting ready to pull it out

Boy something sounds wrong then. From my understanding, both the MTX and the Getrag are pretty stout trans's. For something to actually let loose, bind and crack a case means something big went wrong.

Here's to hoping you just find a boogered pilot bearing or T/O bearing.

well.....FML......

the clutch disk came apart and a chunk of it punched a hole in the transmission... i am beond pissed...

paid like $800 for this thing. broke it in proporly has less than 1,500 mile on it and it come apart cruising down the road..

sooooo someone is getting a phone call mon..

Wow, thats BS... They should pay to replace your tranny too. I know they wont but they should... You pay hella money for a product and it just craps out after no time at all... Give them a piece of your mind man. They better replace that, I would demand an upgraded one too. Good luck man.

I was about to say before I finished reading, "I would be calling Spec for a free replacement". Does McCloud make a twin disc for our transmissions? Granted, with the free replacement you probably won't be immdediatly worried about an alternative. I guess just in case you run into a similar scenario a second time around.

Damn that sucks, that's what happened to the trans in my SVT before I bought it. Well that's why I bought it, the previous owner didn't want to fix it. I got another bell housing and replaced it. Bought the SVT with trans in the trunk lol. Though it was a stock clutch but the same thing happened. Really wish someone made a rebuild kit for these trans.

that's sucks dude!! I have yet to hear a good review on SPEC clutches

honestly i swear by them. have sold and installed probably $50,000 in clutches from them. granted all on mustangs and a few chevys. never had a single problem. but how they handle this will determin my outlook
