Do the 2014 models suffer from the DCT transmissions issues also?

Or are the problems just restricted to 2012 and 2013 models? Has Ford fixed the problems or improved the design on the 2014 models?

I just bought a 2014 Focus S sedan automatic. I am assuming it has the same DCT transmission that people seem to be complaining about on the forums and I want to understand if I am at risk also going down the road.

I have not read of 2014 dct issues. I don't believe you to be at any risk tbh. Though as one says, dual clutch, dual personality. But the issues on the forum arent as prolific as you think. Problems affect a small amount of people vs total units sold. On top of that '12s seem to have "above average" number of issues. '13 issues are slightly lower than '12, I was a lucky one and had a '13 needing seals replaced.

If you've already locked into your purchase, give a try for yourself. If you have a problem, you'll know. If you don't, enjoy it. The focus is a great little car for the price.

Improved design? Yes - to hdwe. & software.

Still some with issues? Yes to that as well. Few compared to '12's or even '13's. Seems to be at par with other issues reported, rather than being the most common issue.

5 spd owners have reported some engine driveability issues, these are usually lumped with DCT issues for those with automatics.

Most without problems never find their way to this site, "fanatics" are a small percentage of ownership.

Enjoy the new car & don't worry too much.

(When I worked as a mechanic, it seemed like everything was constantly breaking 'cause that was what I saw every day. Can't worry about the possibilities all the time)

Hey saintforlife,

Congratulations on your new ride! [headbang] I agree with bshin352's message below. The issues that have come up are handled by Ford Dealers and engineers. Just enjoy the ride. FordService rep's orders.

Absolutely agree! The Focus is a sweet ride and easy to enjoy.

I have seen the same complaints about the 2014. This does NOT mean you will have a problem.
Most here agree that an extremely small percentage of production has the problems BUT woe unto you if yours is one.
You could read here for days without seeing all the posts about it, before or after an escalation by a ford rep.

I also have no problems in warm and hot weather, as the only issues I had in the 110/120 degree summer days of Phoenix was that the A/C just could not get the car cool enough for me. Even with dark tinted windows.

If your car is running fine, chances are it will continue to do so. If it's been showing any issues, then expect things may get worse as the temps go up.

Otherwise, just enjoy it. Two years in of beating this as the daily driver it was purchased to be, it's been good to me. 19 months and 25,000 miles of either LA & Orange county traffic, with weekend runs to Phoenix, Vegas and SF.

.
Unfortunately, this isn't necessarily the case. Cars with leaking seals have shown to behave pretty normally in winter temps only to act up as it gets hotter. Don't take my word for it though, go back through the threads and watch the spike in complaints during the summer months and read people's experiences with respect to temp changes. I am not sure the mechanical reason heat seems to play a factor, but it does. Obviously your seals are not leaking either, so good for you, but I fully expect to see a spike in 2014 complaints during the summer just as we did with 2012 and 2013. I hope to be wrong, but I kinds doubt it.

The first 2014 DCT I bought got stuck in 2nd gear during wide open throttle to pass someone and then went into neutral. All of this happened in drive mode at 900 miles. Reverse worked but that was all. It would just rev in drive or low. Ford did a master reset and it drove again. They ran diagnostics after they reset it and tried to tell me the car was ok. I called the service manager a con artist and that he was committing fraud out loud on the show room floor and between the sales manager and general manager they agreed to buy the car back in full and give me a 2k trade assist on another vehicle. Wanted to get a stang but couldn't pull the trigger so I got another 2014 focus DCT with the sport package, moonroof, fogs, 4 wheel disk breaks discounted to a base SE msrp plus my 2k extra and went on my way. Rolled over 900 miles yesterday and loaded in the injected tune. So far this one's a winner. Bottom line there will still be a lemon or two until they get rid of the DCT or perfect it. I think 2015 will have a 9 speed from GM? Should be interesting. Also gonna have the 1.0 exo boost motor but that doesn't seem like a good option to me...not a lot of power and even tuned that small of motor and turbo may only keep up with a stock 2.0 ti-Vct

As far as i've read the DCT is going to carry over to the '15 model. I have read about that 9 speed auto but i dont think that would come until they do a full redisign for the '17 model year. I feel like there are good DCT's out there in other car's, the one in this car just sucks. Maybe its because it's a dry clutch? this is the firt auto trany i've owned so i dont have much to compare it too.
