Hi, I am thinking of getting manual Focus zx3.

I heard that replacing clutch can be really expensive.(sry, I don't have experience with manual drive, so I don't have any idea about this)

How much would that cost for zx3 with zetec engine??

The zx3 I am interested in is 2002 model, and it has about 96000 miles on it.

Plus, how often you should replace the clutch??

Thanks.

mmm id say 3-500 is the labor alone u still need to throw in the clutch, throwout bearing/slave cylinder, and resurface the flywheel so i throw it out to be around a 900-1k

a mechanics shop will quote you on labor, the ford dealer will charge you 8 hrs of labor. So figure out ur labor price and tack on about 250 bucks more for the clutch and other parts. Depending on ur driving style, you may never need to change the clutch. clutches can EASILY outlive the car. just depends.

Um, all front wheel drive cars are that way. And an eclipse job is going to be less because there is more aftermarket for that car.

More aftermarket doesnt always mean the car is better. THere is probably 3X the aftermarket for honda crx's, doesnt mean they are better cars.

Having a domestic isnt a bad thing. It all depends on how you treat/drive/maintain your car.

And a clutch will last a long-ass time. It depends on how you drive your car. If you are a bastard to it, like I am, it wont last more than 75K. If you drive like my great-grandmother, the clutch is going to last longer than the car.

My wife drove her ZTS like a grandma...she just had to replace the clutch plate at 85k...Fortunately, the rest of the parts replaced were warranty so it only cost $120 + $50 warranty fee...but I'm just concerned because I have 45k on my ST and I don't know how the other owner drove it...I can't really afford 1k+. Cross your fingers for long life. Now I seriously regret buying the ST...

Mine's made it 160k so far...I'm hoping for 200k before I have to sink money into replacing the clutch. I want to be able to replace it myself, and I have a lift, but I don't have transmission jacks to support it.

Shop around, call around, ask every possible shop in your area. Check craigslist as well.

Be wary though, ask for references and check those references.

I'm going through the exact same process right now only I have a 2.3L duratec.

Good Luck!!

I was quoted $250 (labor) to replace clutch/flywheel and install quaife LSD. I'm checking his references now.

Another shop quoted me $550. So, it varies. Don't go too cheap but don't pay more than $600 IMO.

how much would it cost on an SVT Focus- it's a 2004. The fellow selling it wants $1000 for the car and it needs a new clutch- my friend is looking for a car for $1000 or less and this is so cool that it's very difficult to pass up, and because I have a Mustang I know that Fords are good cars for young guys (as in they still make hop-up parts for them, unlike most modern chevys) but I don't think he can afford to put much more than $200 into it...he has a Plymouth that he was driving daily, and he is buying the new car so that he can restore it, as it is a 1968 and deserves better than to rust away before our very eyes...all this to say, how much would a SVT clutch replacement cost at a service shop and is $1k for an SVT a realistic and good price...lastly, if we were to replace the clutch ourselves, would we need to remove the transmission...how difficult would replacing it be?

I've owned my car since it was new. I'm at 180k. I'm just hoping to make it to and from FF and back and then I'm going to get a clutch when I get back. but truthfully it shows no signs of failure. knock on wood! I haven't been the easiest on mine either. my wife put most of the miles on in stand still traffic commuting. I wouldn't sweat the clutch unless you just know it's been abused. also go ahead and start getting the kit together, and when it comes time to do it you'll only have to pay labor.

my question for the wise old owls on here is what brand clutch should I be looking for? I just want stock reliability. no MAJOR engine mods in the future. maybe just toms tune, header, exhaust.. I'm seeing LUK on ebay complete kit shipped 175.00 seems reasonable to me.
