So I got the rear motor mount installed today and wanted to post some thoughts in case someone didn't see it in the other threads.

first impression when I got the mount was how nicely it was built. I kept wanting to hold it because it just looked so damn good.

install was a little bit more challenging then I anticipated. I had already taken the mount out in the past when I installed the fswerks poly insert so I figured this would go quick. two things went wrong. the first was completely my fault. I didn't check to make sure I had the necessary tools before starting, newb mistake. getting everything out is easy, the mount it self has 1 15mm bolt and then it attaches to a bracket with 1 15mm bolt and the bracket has 3 15 mm bolts. you have to take the bracket off first and then the mount slides out. Well the Cobb mount comes with a new bolt that replaces the one where the mount attaches to the bracket. the new bolt is a 3/8 allen head bolt. I apparently did not have that size. luckily I own a bicycle and a parts store is right up the street so about 20 minutes later I had what I needed. the second issue was the mount itself. where the old mount slid in and out no problem, the new mount did not want to go in. I was worried for a minute that it was to big and wouldn't fit. what I wound up doing was spraying the area with wd40 and put a pad on the mount and tapped it with a hammer until I got it to slid in. after that, it was easy sailing, just bolted everything back up and good to go.

so for those installing this mount, heads up, you will need wd40 and a 3/8 allen head socket. and patience. it will go in!

So I've only put about 40 miles on it but that was a mix of city driving, hilly country road driving and highway and I got to say this thing feels damn good. I bought it initially because the stock mount with the insert alowd to much engine movement under hard acceleration which was causing my header to tap on the front sway bar. This mount completely got rid of this. there is zero wheel hop and to be honest the car just feels smoother. I thought the fswerks insert made a big difference but this is night and day. as for vibrations, call me crazy but I honestly think it has less vibrations now then it did with the stock mount/insert. there are still vibrations, don't get me wrong but it very little. this mount is smooth. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a upgrade. Cobb knew what they were doing when the built this for sure.

you know I only had it in for a few thousand miles but I didn't notice any wear on it.

It sure does look good. It's a shame it ends up out of sight when installed.

Thanks for sharing. I'm curious how you decided between the Cobb and the CFM?

I wouldn't mind selling it but to be honest they are so cheap new it probably wouldn't be worth it to do after shipping and everything. I think they are only like $10 new.

Great write up!! Been wondering what the difference would be, going Cobb I think for my MK3

it's definitely worth the money in my opinion. really well built mount and it makes a big difference.

could you please explain little more on this, did it use to feel like knocking/vibration after hard acceleration? would it smooth later once RPM got lower and kept steady..? this is what I have going on and considering if I need to upgrade the RMM
thanks!

well I was referring to my header. it's the fswerks header and it was actually designed for the mk2 ford focus. It bolts up to the mk3 fine but it sits very close to the front sway bar so under hard acceleration would rock back causing the header to tap the front sway bar. Upgrading the mounts eliminated the engine movement which got rid of the issue.

I'd like a little less wheel hop but hate the idea of turning my Focus into a massage chair. lol

well the rear motor mount actually is really nice. it doesn't add any extra vibrations and helps a lot with wheel hop. its the passenger side motor mount that turns your car into a massage chair lol.

That is what I was wondering. Thought about doing the rear mount and rear sway bar. Not sure whether to go with like the cobb or just the one from the electric. Don't race the car just want to stick it to the ground. Next is the 245/40/18 Michelin A/S 3s.

I know this thread is a little old but we just installed the Cobb rear mount on the ST and we've got some annoying vibration but only at about 1k in first. Everything else is great. Shifts smoother, no wheel hop, and is just overall smoother in general but for some reason when taking off in first it vibrates quite a bit when you hit 1k almost like when someone lets the clutch out early/too quick causing the car to stall out. Anybody else have this?

yeah, vibrations are just part of upgrading the mount to something stiffer. they do get better as the mount breaks in though.

I wish I had paid more attention to the stock RMM before installing the e-RMM to compare, but I now detect a slight vibe. It's generally only with a cold start, moving in reverse (5spd). It's only been on around a month, so maybe that will change. Nothing that bothers me enough to go back to stock.

I want this but only if it's noticeable gains. From a dead stop, will flooring it make the car start moving quicker then with the stock mount?

Also wouldn't removing vibrations be a bad thing? aren't the cool vibrations part of what makes the driving experience fun? idk...

It is very noticeable. I used to get this horrible bang from the engine compartment when I floored it. Now my wheels just spin. The vibes are good vibes and not really annoying at all.

The engine mount is not meant to provide you any speed gains. The mount minimizes torque-steer, which in turn allows you to put power down quicker. It changes the driving attitude of the car dramatically. The additional vibrations are almost unnoticeable. Well made product (and I don't say this about all Cobb products) at a good price. Also fairly easy to install.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm new to all of this. Will the Cobb rmm be beneficial and fit on a 2014 SE 6A? I have read that it already has the e-rmm, anyone know if this is accurate?
Pretty sure your Focus didn't come with the Electric Focus E-RMM from the factory. The E-RMM is cheaper vs the Cobb, probably with similar results.
