I was rolling last night, headed to the gym. Gave a lady a jumpstart at the gas station.....And I got out before turning the car off looking for my wallet/membership card in the backseat, I heard a slight rattle....

Well, I went to the dealer to get it looked at, nothing.....they said maybe heat shield. I was already teed because I discovered my hood on the passenger driver side is 1/8" short than the driver side right behind the headlight....

anyway, I did some driving around after that, pretty hard, because if something was wrong I wanted it to break on my own terms and not in morning traffic...well, it did.........

started sputtering, then died when I got on the gas more than 1/4" the way down, so I said enough, pulled over and looked.........it was my MM intake, the screw underneath had worked its way off....which must have been the rattle...the nuts must have been loose...well, it had come all the way off and my driving hard must have worked the hose loose from the TB...

I installed the threaded type washers to the nuts below. Anywho, I will be checking my nuts daily like I do my tires and air pressure. So, not sure if anything got screwed up, no CEL or codes, and it sounds like its pulling like the day I installed it.

So, check your nuts people........and did I mess up anything? [scratch] [scream]

Same thing happened to me very often when I had the steeda short ram. Got tired of it so I customed my own from the stock tube. Problem solved... with my steeda one the filter would not stay on or the tube would come off the TB, never failed. It was always one or the other.

Glad you found it thou. cause even if the MAF can sense just a bit of the air flow, it will not act funny, and you will be sucking in unfiltered air. (not sure how long mine did this, just glad nothing serious.)

yeah, I noticed dirt specks on my throttle body valve, the white part......so I'm paranoid now. It was only that loose for maybe a day at the most. But I'm still squeezing my check paranoid because I don't want to f'up my warranty.

Loctite:
Blue = I might want to unscrew this later.
Red=This bitch is never coming off.

Available at The Home Depot

I check my nuts several times a day. It's a personal thing though... thank you very much.

I believe he's speaking of his lower nuts. [:D]

lol, yeah the lower one that mounts thru the frame hole. I didn't install the washer the first time on the nut side.....so it just worked loose from the vibration and then when it popped out the mount hole, all the weight was on the ruber hose clamp and it too slowly worked loose.....if it wasn't for the splash guard I might have ran it over, then I would be pissed.

No, the hose clamps near the TB are doing fine. But I have everything on their extra tight now...and yeah, I was a moron for not installing the washer the first time. Only I can screw up a CAI install....lol

And thanks for telling me to get the blue kind of locktite. [thumb]

Me neither my lower nut with rubber has been tight since the first day installing the intake.

Hey, Tim. So what you're saying is you busted a nut?

LMAO.

wow, no puns are allowed fellas. But yeah, its pretty scary, its no fun babying your car after a scare like this, but I will just get some locktite during lunch, I have the locking washer on it now, and I got my 7/16" socket, so I will just add the locktite and check it whenever I wash the car or whatnot.

I used blue loctite on the retaining screw for my intake when I installed it. Haven't had any issues.

i had that same problem Tim ! except mine was loose for like a couple weeks before i noticed it. i had a CEL that i coulnd figure out until one day on the highway, it started choking and turned off. I poped the hood and noticed it my intake of hanging off. I will look into that locktite tho..

and wuts up with the mod threats ?? cant joke around a lil ?? geeez

my steeda intake's never came loose[nutkick] but, when you put the top shield on the intake, the screw in the back that holds it in place striped the threads[nutkick]. i don't know what the thing is that the screw goes into, but i don't like the fact that i have a stripped screw now [nutkick][:(]

glad I am not the only one! But now I am worried about the fact that my CEL never came on. So that doesn't make me feel safe and secure, I wonder if my oil pressure light or overheating light would come on if I needed to know that useful bit of information?!!

From what mine has done, when there is something that really requires your attention, it will let you know. Right then.

I was driving down the freeway and she decided that she was done with her upper radiator hose and all of the coolent.

The CEL was on within 2 seconds of the noise.

That's what I'm sayin, it seems like every other post is magically vanishing overnight. C'mon now we can't even have the slightest jokes in threads before we have the big Canadian thread police in our face. [:)~]
