can someone please humor me and tell me why the hell a 99 si (b16a) when turbocharged numbers are way better than a SVTs especially under high boost??? (see for yourself on clubcivic, or clubsi.com)

Maybe Orange can enlighten us to the number of losses he's had recently at the hands of our ruthless JDM nemesis?

Heh.

I'd guess part of the reason is you can pump stupid boost into a honda block without all that much work. I've seen dyno's of B18's running 20+ psi, which isnt typically done in our division.

I've also heard, but cant verify, that VTEC lobes are bypassed in hardcore turbo rigs because its easier to tune an engine with a linear power curve.

Dont we have a honda owner or 2 on the forum?

inschool VTAK would not matter, all depends on engine setup. p.s. what kind of numbes are we talking,

Of course vtec would matter especially when dealing with hp ............hell even in the quarter mile to.

Because the b16 motor is a bullet proof motor and VTEC is from the gods and the ZETEC engine is... well... Come on!?! It's a Honda motor versus a Ford, who did you think would win?

Why does it matter? There is always something faster. I love my focus because it's fun to drive. I'm sure a new ZO6 would be more fun but I vowed never to own another GM vehicle after the last screwing I took. And then there is the price tag.
Honda can build whatever they want but I doubt I'll be buying. I've never owned a honda car but I've dealt with honda's motorcycle division. Not as bad as GM, but no thanks.

Nice to see your loyaly to your Focus, but you missed the point completely.

The JDM hordes around here aren't any compitition.

FYI we also have VCT..... which is a FULL time version of Vtec. But basically they are a more efficient engine.

first off when you are turbo charging a b16, they have the same compression as us, second after 7psi they have to do internals, it just doesnt make any sense, we have forged interals or at least rods, granted our redline is much lower but still there are missing pieces to the puzzle. will a better intake cam help on top of a port and polish to help the flow cuz i mean there are kids on there achiving way high hp numbers on the same boost as orange is running almost doubling his hp numbers.

incorrect sir. our VCT only changes the timing of a fixed lift/duration cam. a VTEC system uses two different sets of lobes with different lifts and duration. one set of lobes has a lift/dur for low rpm tq, and the other set of lobes has a different life/dur for high rpm hp. when the VTEC activation rpm is reached, a solenoid allows oil pressure to engage a second set of rocker arms that ride the second set of lobes. VTEC basically gives you two camshaft profiles on one cam. our VCT only changes the timing, not the lift/duration. I do believe that honda does have an i-VTEC which incorporates a similar VCT system in addition to the VTEC

It's not loyalty to my Focus. I'm not sure what the point is, guess I'm not competitive enough when it comes to what I happen to own.
I ride bikes with a guy who has to have the baddest. In 2000 I picked up a zx6r. Him a 929, then 01 gzxr1000, oops crash, 02 gsxr1000, spend lots o money to make 183 WHP. 05 start over with much improved gsxr1000. Me, I still have the old 6R, lots of fun, pockets full o money. And he's still not faster! [:)~]

RPM is the way to high HP out of small engines.
