Are we really limited to only 5 performance upgrades?

See if I'm leaving something off....

We have motor mounts....

Intakes....

Exhaust....

Tune...

Header....

and that's all that's really out there for our cars???

I think there is underdriven crank pullies, thought I saw an intake manifold, but I think thats for racing applications...Tom is working on a bolt-on turbo kit apparently...there must be top end upgrades, oversize valves, stiffer valve springs...you can get headwork done, port and polish, valvegrind, portmatching....performance costs money, now how fast do you want to go! :)

The money isn't a huge deal but its hard to talk myself into dropping say 20k into a 27k dollar car.

Plus by the time its said and done I could an Audi S6 or even a used GTR for what I have in the Focus lol

I need to stop being indecisive just do the basic bolt ons and a tune. Keep it dependable and buy a race car if I want a race car

I have been thinking of a used ST also. Nice black one with 10k at my work now greets me every time I come in.

I am only lacking the header and tune of the previous upgrades and was curious as to what the "ceiling" might be for our cars... Is it unreasonable to think we could keep pace with a stock fiesta st ? I feel that could be quite respectable ... Any input is appreciated.

That's a stock Fist, wait till a tune & other mods get installed by Fist ppl. I'd compare the mods for a Fost & your n/a foci, as far as cost vs performance. That's like me checking STI's vs rex's= STI all the way. btw my wife mentioned the foci just flipped 70k & we should keep it for awhile longer & not mess w/ our savings. So I'm ok w/ that.

A fully-bolted Mk3 will keep pretty close to straight-line pace with a stock FiST, if not be just a touch quicker. My Mk3 was bolted minus header and I'm pretty confident that it sat solidly between the FiST/FoST when they were stock. I don't have legitimate numbers to definitively qualify the statement, that's just my personal opinion from driving them daily.

Every time I commit people freak out over not seeing specific numbers, but I know how close my Mk3 would stick to my FoST and how far behind my FiST would fall to the FoST...so I'm not afraid to place them in that order. A properly-shifting DCT saves valuable time in shifting as well.

The FiST guys would surely freak out though, lol. Most of them are convinced that they're as quick as the FoST stock vs stock...

thanks that was what i was thinking to be honest, never ran across a FiST but was always a little confident my Mk3 could at least keep pace. Now that I've got on a TTR mount and a magnaflow cat back i'm a tad more so.

I understand that once the FiST owner puts some mods on it would be quicker than an NA mk3 even with full bolt ons. But the original question was if a bolted mk3 can run with a STOCK FiST, which they can.

I've talked to the wife about it and I'm just doing basic bolt ons and keep it a fun daily as obviously these things aren't race cars.

Ordered my FSWerks Stealth exhaust and RMM insert yesterday.

Ordering tune on Monday if I can decide which way to go

and still undecided on if I want to do header or not

Cool! I'm going to get the Magnaflow cat-back. I've decided that I'm going to get a header, and a tune together when my warranty expires. Also, I'm going to have a custom tune for 100 octane. After about 50,000 miles I'm going to purchase the handling package, then I will be done.

Didn't know you ran a header too. Ever get it on a dyno fully bolted like that?

lol jburks needs his dyno info!!
moarrr dynoooo

all the dyno info is like a year or so old? w/o full boltons :c

Yeah! I'm waiting on kaykay and rebeldevil to dyno there cars. They are both fully bolted and tuned

And kaykay. I'm more interested in his cause he has a dct like me.

I don't know if available for the Focus but I once had an edelbrock mild cam and intake in my mustang and it was awesome. Turbo charger? Supercharger? Nitros? If you get into this subject it is deep and expensive.

always compare how much you are spending to stock factory stuff like a WRX STI and/or and EVO. Why go to all that warranty voiding trouble when you can drive a barn stormer off the dealers lot fully warranteed ?

Dyno numbers and 1/4 mile times would make for a better argument instead of speculation. The FiST run a 15.1 according to most car rags and haven't really seen any NA Focus times in the 14s yet but maybe I missed them as it is possible. It seems most Focus owners with mods rarely ever get to a track or dyno.

Don't get me wrong, I wish I had collected legitimate data to compare-whether that was 1/4 mile slips or dyno charts. I'm a big opponent towards SOP claims, though my opinion was also formed with some side-by-side 'road testing'. Still, not a legitimate comparison, especially considering the fact that it was Mk3/FoST followed by FoST/FiST because I never owned the Mk3 and FiST at the same time.

Also, we're talking about two of the most highly modified Mk3's and non-modified FiST's. The FiST clearly has more room to grow where the Mk3's were more or less at their max. My Mk3 also had undersized tires, which gave me a mechanical advantage over most other Mk3's. There is at least one Mk3 that achieved 15.0 (not many Mk3 owners drag race or post slips) with less mods and there are a few FiST slips running mid 15's. At the very least a modded Mk3 will give a stock FiST lots of concern-especially where the FiST struggles with traction on the ridiculously narrow 205's.

Finally, my Mk3 was DCT and I can't come remotely near the quickness in shift times. Drag strip performance-wise, I would have preferred the DCT in my FiST.

For a cost/performance scenario, I would take a solid Mk3 S with the Steeda CAI, E-RMM, header, 2.5" straight pipe, lighter wheels with good rubber, and a tune. Remove the passenger seats and spare tire, make FiST owners cry. I'm pretty sure that that should net some mid-14 second passes, and that's currently the best I've run in the FiST at stage 3. The FiST needs better traction and driver mod, but there would be no or little driver mod necessary for the Mk3. Even if you're only roughly at the same level, you're at the level $5k cheaper.
