I got my Kenwood 12" running at 300wrms now and I'm very happy with it, especially for the $45 shipped brand new I got it for, but with my speakers being ran off the headunit, I can sometimes barely hear my mids and high on some songs with heavy bass. I've adjust my gain and bass boost, but the fact of the matter is that the speakers aren't that loud.

I'm currently running a Pioneer hu, 30 rms Blaupunkt speakers in the front, 35 rms Kenwoods in the back, 300rms dual amp, to the Kenwood 12. I also have a set of 35 rms Pioneers sitting in my garage.

What I want to do is buy another small cheap amp to amplify the rear speakers for just some more volume. The cheap Boss amp I'm looking at puts out 50w x 2 rms at 4ohms and 100w x 2 at 2ohms, unbridgable, which is more than the speakers can handle. But what about wiring two speakers to each channel and running them at 4 ohms?. I've looked at basic wiring diagrams and running them in a series would put them at 8 ohms with what, 25rms to each channel?, and running them in a parallel configuration would put them at 2 ohms at 100w per channel, which is still too much power.

So I guess my question is, how could I wire the 4 speakers on both channels to operate at 4 ohms? Is that even possible?

If not does anyone know where to find smaller amps?

nope, not possible, only if the speakers were 2 or 8 ohm, and even then, you would loose your fade option

honestly, 50rms isnt going to be that bad, just make sure you tune correctly, and avoid any clipping, distortion, and you should be alright.

Check crutchfield and see if they have any decent amps that arent that powerful.

Either that, or tone down the bass to get a more evened out sound to your setup

Yeah, definitely amplify the front speakers.

Check out Profile amps:

Good quality on the cheap. The 200SX is 60wx2 RMS and only runs $39. Or you could drop another 6 bucks (I know, might break the bank) and get the 400SX which does 100x2 RMS.

For the love of God, don't buy Boss. It's cheap, crappy equipment.

profile isnt that much better than boss....i had a boss amp to a LONG time ago and had no problems with it...

Guess it depends on what kind of money you have...I would look at the alpine MRP-f300..its a 4 channel amp that would work and would not require any crazy wiring configurations and is only 200 bucks new...you could look around and find a used one i bet for cheap

I realize amplifying the front would sound better, but not for ease of installation. The rears would be much easier, just pick up some RCA splitters and a distribution block for the power and it's pretty much as easy as that. My ride is a Kia Sportage and if I mount the speakers up on top of the sub box and angle them forward, it'll get the job done, even if it seems most of the sound is coming from the rear. I'll probably end up just getting some bass blockers for the fronts, because my front speakers/doors/dash tend to vibrate pretty loud and dynamat isn't an option.

Of course I'd like to have a great all around system, but I need to pay of my Kia (just a few more months) and start saving for school, which is hard when I'm still trying to graduate balancing work at the same time.

I know Boss aren't the greatest amps, but I know a few people have used them with great success. For $40-50 shipped off Ebay, you can't beat it and as long as it lasts me around 6 months till I graduate and start working more hours, I'll be happy.

I think I'll just pick up the amp and hook it up to the rears, keep the gain down, boost off, and try not to get too crazy with the volume and see how long they last. When they die, pick up a pair of 6x9s of higher power.

Thanks for all help.

But if anyone comes across a two channel amp that puts out 25-35wrms x 2, let me know.

Older Boss amps weren't so bad. Now, they're trash. I've installed many Profile amps and they get the job done, and never had problems with them, which is why I have no problem recommending them despite their low price.

hmm...when you listen to a song and you hear a cymbal with your left ear...is that heard as facing the band...or playing in the band? One of life's great mysteries, it seems. I can never decide as I have my headphones on if I should rock out as a fan in the audiance, or as a band member. LOL

I don't understand why people want to make the rear speakers louder then the fronts.
Quick, cheap, easy. I don't plan on keeping the car all too long.

And yep, I'm in the band.

EDIT: After a second look at the Profile site, I found the 100sx amp that puts out 35wrms x 2 at 4 ohms. Perfect, and only $29. We'll see how well it holds out, but good look on the link jman. + Rep.

Yeah, I'm quick to recommend Profile amps for their price and quality. Definitely great bang for the buck.
