2016 Transmission? Does it shudder?

I'm considering buying a new 2016 Focus SE hatch w/ automatic transmission. So the question is....

Has Ford made any changes that corrects the shudder problem I hear about in the older models? Or is it still an ongoing problem?

I had a 2014 as a rental before, I liked it, but I don't want to deal with the shudder problems if they still exist.

Test drives of new cars will not tell you if the transmission issues have been resolved on the 2016. Maybe if you test drove a large number of used high mileage 2016's, maybe.

The issues can be intermittent, and not show up for several thousand miles or more. The question is are there enough 2016's with enough miles to know for sure?

The only way to be sure is to avoid the DCT.

Why gamble, get a 5 speed manual or non DCT. I am pretty sure the auto with the ecoboost is not a DCT

For me I was nearly out of warranty and after three clutches in 6k miles I wasn't going to toy with it anymore.

That and I got a telecommute job so I literally drive maybe 200 miles a month now.

My 14 had also been rear ended and I had taken a hit on value there.

I got my 16 loaded for about 16.9 with my loan and roll over I was still under sticker and a lot less upside down than I was from the accident (see my rear ended thread) and what I owed. I'm actually less loan owed now than the cars trade value.

That and I can't even tell you how much I missed a stick. So for me the tranny issues just pushed me on to trade. -- the advisor told me I was due for a fourth clutch replacement and at that point I was done.

August '16 from this info., not definitive as to adoption date in 2016 models:

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/...e/693033-dct-clutch-time-but-what-tomorrow-you-say-latest-version-post-4-a.html

Now you raise the question IDK for sure when the 2016's got the new clutches, seen a couple references as to their availability for replacement use but nothing solid I'm remembering right now on when they were put in the production cars.

Assumptions of similar date for production, but it could have been earlier.

My recollection was mid/late November 2015 for 2016 models. With availability for replacement for prior years in the spring of 2016. But my recollection powers aren't as good as they used to be.
Could have been 11/15 for production installation, just don't have a reference handy for proof.
[read] See below:

Wow - not sure how this went unnoticed for so long! It's been installed in build dates on/after 6 Nov 2015.

New clutch part number is: F1FZ-7B546-B

DPS6 Transmission Have A New Clutch Available For Service ? 2011-2016 Ford Fiesta & 2012-2016 Focus | ford.oemdtc.com

Also, maybe there was another revision after that, but I don't think so.
Not that I've seen on fordparts.com or through Ford White Bear Lake's parts finder.

I can't place it well, that thread linked on replacements was the first confirmation of a new set I remember seeing.

Could have been 11/15 for production installation, just don't have a reference handy for proof.

THEY STILL SHUDDER!!! My 2016 Focus has 9800 miles on it and it started doing it around 500 miles ago. Why oh why would Ford continue to manufacture these cars knowing of this problem dating back to 2012! Finally bought my first brand new car at age 53 and man am I disappointed! I couldn't afford to stay in a VW that I had been driving for many years, but I didn't expect a downgrade like this. I have the extended warranty, etc. and am bringing it into the dealer later this week.

DON'T BUY ONE!!!

DON'T BUY ONE!!!
5 speed in the other hand has more than perfect reliability. I would agree with you but only with the DCT models otherwise MK3 Focus is a fun & reliable car to drive.

That 's nice that you all tout the 5spd as the best option. What to do if you don't want a plain jane model and want the bells and whisles of the HB SEL and not the crummy radio and small screen? There is no other choice than the DCT. Ford won't option the manual trans. Contrary to popular belief, not every single DCT has had problems. The seals are now much improved and so is the clutch material. It is not the same as the entry year models. Learn how to drive it, just like when you learned to drive a stick.

Just as an aside for some who have the shudder/hesitation/stumble issue.

Took my 2016 Focus SE in for the transmission, Ford service writer thought it was DCT for sure. Turned out the throttle body was bad, had it replaced and no more issues.

May or may not be the same issue but something to be aware of.

Explorer had a bad batch of Throttlebodies as well.

this may sound silly, but can someone please define SHUDDER! I have a '16. Build date 11/16. I get an 'occassional grind' as i begin to accelerate. It will happen a couple of times, usually within a few starts and stops then will be fine and be smooth as silk for days. I can only describe it as a slight knocking sound. If I take it to the dealer, it will be a case of nothing happening when there.
