Hmm... I am still a little apprehensive about getting it. It seems that a lot of people are having issues with it.

I know if I get it, and it doesn't work, then I will be pissed I got it.
If I don't get it, I will be pissed I didn't get it.

I am going to the dealership tonight because they just got an SEL in with the MyFord Touch and the Winter package. If the price is right, I'll probably get it.

Hope I am making the right decision here. [:(]
There are numerous articles on MFT issues you could find online and print out and take with you. Then as part of the sale you could ask for an extended warranty.

Since the update i have not had any freeze ups. but its still not 100%. the screen text from one scren will sometimes stay and overlap onto the the next. everything still works fine, but you have a lot of garbled text everywhere. every now and then i get a 20 second delay when trying to use a voice command.

no freeze up makes me happy though. hopefully they iron out everything soon

Well add me to the problems with MFT list. Left work today and got in car. Black screen of nothingness. Drove home in silence. About 1/2 way through my commute the screen comes to life, says performing maintenance, blah blah blah. Took about 20 minutes and MFT was back. Glad I didn't have to dig around and hunt for a fuse to pull, but I was fuming the whole way home. We'll see if it is working tomorrow, else I'll start my calls to the dealer. Sigh.

Likewise (but not 20 min wait fortunately). Got in my car after work Tues and started it up, screen never came on. Got it last Thurs so it wasn't even a week of ownership but sure enough, black screen. Only took about a minute or two before it launched into "Performing Scheduled Maintenance".

Who scheduled it? I didn't. What an odd time to schedule it! (I'm kidding, I know it is a BS message to cover the re-boot it was doing).

Not going to go crazy yet as I've been around tech toys my whole life. Had to re-boot computers, hard reset phones and the like, video game consoles, etc. but I will now be wathcing it very warily.

Well. I did it! I got a Black SEL sedan with the 301A and winter package.

Wish I would of thought that! [mad]

For what it's worth, most people experiencing serious issues have the navigation option. Those without it seem to have minor to zero problems with it.
I made sure that it did not have the navigation on it. That puts my mind a little more at ease.

Funny thing, buyer's remorse is already setting in [:I]. Despite that, I am going to be saving $155 per month on gas alone, which is less than the monthly payment for the car [woot]

Just out of curiosity, do both of you have the navigation?

Well, I do. But honestly, that has worked flawlessly. Of course, it has only been a week so I am witholding judgement. I've only been driving in areas I am familiar with so who knows?

Search through other threads though and I think you will find it is not necessarily the Nav. People without it (but with MFT) have issues. Like I said earlier, I've had tech toys all my life and have had to re-boot/hard reset many things. So far, I had one minor issue that self-corrected inside 4 minutes (a couple for the black screen and a couple for the "performing scheduled maintenance" to complete).

As it only happened once and it was quick, I am not concerned. However, a month from now I find it has happened 10 more times, I will be pissed.....time will tell.

Same thing happened to me this morning but no reboot. Screen is still black. Thanks Ford!

Speculate all you want, the Nav is not the issue. It's the component attached to it....

blah blah blah.
Why are our cars having these issues with MFT? They seem to be pretty widespread. Is Ford working on a solution or just a patch to get us through the 3 year warranty and then we are on our own. Why did Ford release these cars with MFT if they knew there were significant issues (MFT in Edge etc.)?

nope. couldn't see the point of paying $800 for nav when a top-of-the-line garmin goes for $350 and has more features and free lifetime upgrades.

it does seem to me that the people with Nav have more issues, or at least post more about their issues. or us folk w/o Nav are the minority.

I see. Thanks for your input. The SEL I bought has the MFT without the Nav, I made sure of it.

The car had a build date of 8/12 and is on the way to the dealer now. I just hope I don't have any issues with the MFT or else I am going to kick myself.

There was an email that went around about 15 yrs ago about what would happen if microsoft made cars. One of the main themes was that your car would fail at random times for no apparent reason--and people would be okay with it. It was funny because at that time, such a thing was an unthinkable reaction.

I don't care how many computers are in my car, if ever one crashes & has to reboot--no matter how minor--it is unacceptable to me. MFT is impressive & neat, but unless it is as robust & reliable as my current radio + A/C + ..., I won't buy it.

Well driving along today MFT locked up while playing Sirius. First I noticed the song title/artist didn't update. So I touched the screen, completely non-responsive. Tried to adjust the volume from the steering wheel, still non-responsive. Pulled the trigger for Sync, no response. Power button, no response. Fortunately the volume knob worked just fine (the volume never changed).

When I shut the vehicle off and exited the dash was display was on the frozen screen. I expected to see it still on and stuck when I finished with dinner but it was black. Started the car up and all was normal and working again.

That makes 2 black screens (followed by sudden reboots/starts) and one total lock up within the first 8 days of ownership. v2.11. My confidence in MFT is sinking fast.

I agree. I have had my car for just over 2 weeks. I've also had the black screen then reset 5/10 min later twice! Ironically, I took it into my dealer yesterday morning for a look and they found no issues. Last night was my second black screen and reboot. I took pictures and sent an email to my sales person/service manager. They are rated top in the state so I hope they'll do something, even replace the hardware. All I know is 25k is too much to spend for some things to work and others not to work. I will hold my frustration and anger until later, for now, nice guy emails to the dealer.

All that said, I really love the car and all the aspects of it, except it is a bit small compared to what I was used to but I knew that going in.... [:)]

Sorry to hear about your issues guys...

scottjl, if your screen ever locks up the worst thing to do is start pressing all sorts of buttons, if you've experienced a PC lockup you should know that. Adding commands on top of the issue often leads to the lockup, normally giving a few seconds for the computer to catch up to itself resolves the issue.

Glad I haven't had all these issues so far, *knocks on wood* but my dealership has been great so far so I expect no trouble if I do get any.

Can't wait to get my scholarship return, gonna use it toward negotiating and getting the 5 yr extended warranty so even beyond 3 years if MFT or anything electronic fails it's all covered and I get a loaner :D

Mine did the same exact thing multiple times when I first got the car. After they replaced the APIM I haven't had it happen once.

Very true, except you're forgetting the alternative:

Glock .40 to the center of the screen. Believe me when I say I've genuinely thought of doing this more than once. I think this might void the warranty though.

MFT has been nothing but a headache for me also. Took delivery three weeks ago and still haven't got it sorted out. Worst part about it is that SYNC causes the text message feature of my phone to stop working (actually a blessing). After pairing, I no longer receive text messages in or out of the car.

Somewhere up above, someone posted about Microsoft making cars - this seriously went through my head when I bought the Focus. When the tech suggested 'rebooting' it was difficult not to laugh.

Hello All -

My car just got to the dealer and I may have an opportunity to pick it up this evening. Are there any ways to "check" or something that I can look for on the MFT to determine if it is going to be an issue down the road?
