Hello everybody!

So the wife was driving the 2008 diesel focus the other day and it broke down.
We towed it to the garage and they said its the cam belt chain I think! We got the belt changed a couple of months ago to stop this happening but he said its not the belt that's snapped its the chain? He said he don't normally change that unless the customer asks for it as its so expensive...I didn't even know it had both but now we have a scrap focus 😔 does that sound right?

It has both. Replacement interval is 90,000 miles.
The 2005 1.8 TDCI engine is equipped with both a timing belt and a chain.
The crankshaft and diesel injection pump are connected by a chain. The diesel injection pump is connected to the camshaft by a timing belt.
After 03-01-2008 Ford changed the chain which connects the crankshaft with the diesel injection pump for a so called wet belt. This is basically a timing belt which is running through the engine oil. From what I know the chain and wet belt should be interchangable.
