Im looking at a 2001 se sedan and I was wondering what luck you have had with the reliability of your 2001? If you could include your mileage and a list of things that went wrong that would be great. Also, if you have any other comments on reliability of 2001 models, any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance![:)]

I have a 2001 SE sedan with 95k miles. Its been pretty reliable. I just recently had a vaccum leak fixed, other than that, nothing really. Only complaint that I have is, I dont think the mileage is quite what I was expecting when I bought the car. Its a bit on the low side. On the highway, Im only getting like 29, which I thought seemed low, maybe thats average for the 2.0 SOHC. Anyway, I hope this helps a little.

I got an 01 SE sedan w/ around 140K on the SPi. Engine runs very good and tranny (MTX) shifts smooth. Problems I had were the rear defroster stopped working, the map light wouldn't illuminate with door open (would constantly stay on), door ajar light stopped working, seat belt reminder stopped working, and door chime stopped working. It was all fixed by just simply disconnected the battery for around 3-4 hours. I don't know exactly what the fault was, but it was fixed after battery disconnect. Gas mileage is good with being capable of getting around 330 miles on almost full tank.

I used to have an 01' ZX3, Zetec engine. Put 82,000 miles on it with many auto-x events and some spirited driving. The only problem that I had with it was the DPFE sensor needing to be replaced 2 or three times, all covered under warranty. There is a newer part that should solve that problem so no worries.

I have the lx with the spi engine, i get about 32 highway 24 city. i had a misfire which cost a little over $300 to replace all 4 wires and plugs and this other part i cant remember what it was called. i had moisture in my headlights, replaced for free at the dealership, had the fuel pump recall done b/c car was stalling, rear door latch recall done. lucky I live close to the dealership [?|] . but i still love the car though, handles better than anything i drove before and gets great mileage and its got more style than most cars in its class

wow, randy, you get 330 out of a tank? Im damn lucky if I can get 300, most of the time its around 280, and 90% of my driving is highway.
It can be done. I also do atleast 90% of highway driving with a steady speed of around 60-65mph. I don't drive as fast as others so i'm sure thats the major factor.

edit: I forgot to add that I too had moisture problems in the headlight. I brought it to the dealer to see if it can be replaced. The declined saying that the moisture was insufficient. I wasn't about to leave with a half-assed excuse so I asked if they can show me an example of something that would be sufficent. I was hoping they it couldn't be done and i'd get a new headlight, but they showed me a laminated piece of paper with pictures of headlights with moisture problems. It stated what can be replaced and what is "normal". I no longer have that problem. I found that if you don't scrub your headlights while washing, you'll get no moisture. I'm not saying don't wash, just don't scrub. I also got that recall for the door-latch...it has yet to be done. Been busy being lazy :)

I have an 01 SE sedan Zetec,
I had the wheel bearing recall done, the radiator fan power harness replaced (burnt up)
the fuel pump replaced, the positive battery cable replaced (can cause a fire)
these are mostly all recalls with the exception of the radiator fan harness, that was just a freak thing, I have only had 1 problem and my car has 51K on it and I drive the crap out of it.
and mine is an ATX, so I think it's a very reliable vehicle, It's never left me stranded.[thumb]

I got a 2001.... only thing that went wrong was the DPFE (EGR) sensor but that is EXTREMELY common on the focus. Haven't had any other issues yet. Car has about 50,000 mi on it.
Not to Hijack everyone.... But S2 I have really BAD gas mileage, like 180 - 240 to a tank of premium ! (ouch) kinda hurts the pocket book..... I have no CEL but I do get a hesitation when I'm accelerating but only when it's hot and the air condidtioning is on. I also get a slight miss at idle, could this be my DPFE ?? It has never been replaced And I have 50K on it.....
**end hijack**

I have an 01 ZX3 that I bought last year w/only 15 K on the clock. I used it pretty much this past year and now it's got 50K. I had to have the fuel pump recall done and later it took a coil pack. Other than that, it's been perfect, never let me sit, and always starts right up when I'm ready to go. I really like this car. 25-30 mpg no problem.

Ditto on the DPFE here on my 2001 ZX3 ATX. And ditto on the gas milage. But I do have a heavy foot. Other than it has been a great car.
