just wondering if any of you guys have experienced this? last few months i have been noticing that at a steady speed, say 35-40 mph, the car is surging! wtf! it went back for the "fuel pump" recall. car has an automatic

i have installed FR wires, Iridium plugs and a k&n drop in. when cruising at say 70 mph, i don't really notice it, i wonder if that is an indicator for what is happening.

tia!!!

Yes! I have been having the same problem. When im driving at a normal speed around 40 mph and the rpms are around 2000 it sort of surges back and forth really slightly and the rpms move up a little and down a little. It drives me crazy, I really didn't notice this problem until I took it to Ford Dealership for a oil chane 2 weeks ago and they told me I need to have a colant flush and my fuel filter replaced. They said my fuel filter is 70% bad, I am going to replace it as soon as I get my money.

There was something about this before. Some service note... I forget exactly what was causing the problem, but when you'd reach around 2000 rpm and are cruising at that speed, you'll notice some "surging" or "jerking"... it's not hard jerking, but there's something there causing a weird feeling from the car... if it happens to you, then you know what I'm talking about. Ha ha. You're not alone on this one, man. It's nothing too bad to worry about, but still annoying none-the-less. I never had mine checked out or fixed for this, as it's not too often I cruise at 2000 rpm. [:)]

surging etc...

well your not alone.. my new SVTF less than 3000 miles does the same thing.. annoying. i am going to be getting the SCT tune soon so i hope this will put an end to this problem, also doing some plug wires and exhaust soon. let us know if you figure out the problem.[cool]

surging etc...

revamp, my 04 SVTF does this even after warm up. i bought this car for gas milage, so i drive it mostly easy.. anytime around 2200RPM in 4th gear you can feel it, only if at a steady speed and about 40mph.[???:)]

my focus did the same thing with my AEM cai I hooked my scanner to it and found that the stock mass air flow sensor was way out of range. This caused the ECU to think it was getting to much air so it dumped alot of fuel and retarded the timing. Causing a small surging. I thought the same thing and tuned the engine which did not help.

well the ford racing wires are a few months old, i have a fuel filter on the shelf waiting to go on as soon as it gets nicer outside.
maybe i can clean the throttle body and check the maf anyhow. can i spray something on the maf to clean it. i haven't looked at it but if it is like my gm one maybe there is something i can do to clean it

what is a DPFE ??????

texassvt,
mine is pretty much the smae as yours, and the gas mileage is not that great either! lol!!!

jflash,

look forward to your feedback!

how in the heck does a dealer know it is 70% bad! wtf??? do they flow fuel through it to verify a flow rate???

thanks to all for their input! i will post after filter is changed, i hope to be able to figure it out soon enuff!

had this problem with my 01. Its real easy to fix. It is probably the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor. My engine light came on too and when I ran the code it indicated the EGR system. That could have been a couple of things, but after talking to the guys at the parts dept they told me that they had been selling a helluva lot of those. I believe it was around $30 and took about 10 minutes to change. Fixes don't come much more cheaper or quicker. Check to see if your ride qualifies for the service bulletin that Ford issued for this part. If so it will be done for free. I think your car has to be less than 5 years old with less than 50k to qualify. Good luck

wow thanks, i will change that as well. is it on the top of the motor, somewhere near the intake? is it a diaphragm style, i will look latoer on to see if i can find it :)

i just changed the fuel filter a day ago along with an oil change and i cut that bump out to allow more air in to the stock air intake. haven't driven the car but i will report back after putting a few miles on it.
