I have a 2000 SE that has always gotten just 20 MPG. It has the dual overhead cammed Zetec Engine. Has anyone been able to get better gas mileage than this with this engine?[scratch]

Obviously something is wrong. It looks like my mileage is off by about 30%. I change the oil every 3000 and keep clean air and oil filters installed. It starts up quick. Runs great, but slurps gas. I wonder if the fuel regulator is screwy. Anybody ever have one go bad?
i filled my car up till the nozzle stopped, and then went 10 miles up highway 50 and came back to the same gas station and put exactly a gallon in at 20 miles on the trip odometer and i wasnt running the a/c when i did thatb
ive been getting real crappy gas mileage ever since i got my fuel pump changed. best ive gotten since getting it changed is 26 mpg all highway. im around 22 city. im going to check my o2 sensor this weekend. change the oil this weekend. and hope that it does better
got the same problem...
my check engine is on, so i checked the code and the o2 sensor is bad...
gonna replace it and i hope that helps a little...
the air filter is clean, change oil every 3000 miles with full synthetic same with ngk spark plugs... and the sensor is the only thing that i could think of...
If you check the o2 with a volt meter you have to know what your looking for , you should see the voltage switch up and down but only after about 3-4 min of idling then depending on what that voltage is you could be running lean or rich and that would mean you have other issues , Its best to get a scan tool

SCT is the company that makes the X-calibrater for our focus. It can scan codes and reset them . It will also show live data on a lap top. You can also buy custom tunes. Download them from Tom (1turbofocus) over the internet. Very good tool to own. Every Focus owner should have it. Most of the time it will save you $$ , it keeps you from guessing at problems.
it could be something that is added to the gas in order to stop it from freezing, i see you live in maryland so this could be the case, my other suggestion is going to oreilly's or any other automotive store and buy a fuel additive, should only be a few bucks, and it will help to relubricate your pistons and clean your engine
I have same problem max 25 on long run. Took it to Autozone and they told me catalytic converter had gone, cost about $300 plus fitting
