18s32 Recall - CPV Not Replaced

I just had Recall 18s32 performed, somehow I didn't see the mailer and the dealership didn't bring it up when I visited before. I discovered the recall when I had codes P0456 and P2196. I took it in and had the dealership perform the recall. They updated the PCM module software but did not replace the CPV, evaporative emissions vapor canister, or fuel tank. I thought from reading the recall that they needed to replace the CPV but the dealer insisted that they didn't. This is the text of the recall that I found: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2018/RCMN-18V735-0635.pdf Now I've driven about 150 miles since the recall was performed and I have a new code "P1450 - Unable to Bleed Up Fuel Tank Vacuum" This sounds like it is caused by the CPV not functioning?

Is there a procedure to check the valve? The dealership near me wouldn't perform the recall without me paying a $220 diagnostic fee so I had to go to a dealership further away. I'm not expecting them to replace the valve but I can do it myself if that is the problem. I downloaded the shop manual but I cannot find the section that goes over P1450.

Recalls and TSBs are VIN specific. Are you sure yours falls under this recall? If it does, and based on the codes and what you stated, the instructions clearly state the CPV should be replaced regardless of it's condition. If there is a true recall on your vehicle, the dealer should not be charging you a diagnostic fee. And dealers typically love warranty/recall work since they're paid by Ford. They wouldn't have a disincentive (actually, they have a true incentive and lawful obligation) to do the work. This is again however if your VIN falls within the program.

Yes, my VIN is covered by this recall. Sadly they just updated the computer software. Although that's the bit I cannot do myself, so at least they did that, lol. It was quite a battle getting them to do the recall in the first place. The first dealership really, really didn't want to do the recall. They both wanted the $220 fee and to keep the car for several days :( The second dealership initially wanted a diagnostic fee as well but I was able to talk them out of it...

Thank you for your help. I ordered the CPV (BV6Z-9D289-R) and will replace it myself. Hopefully that will fix the issue :) I should probably follow the rest of the recall and check the evaporative emissions vapor canister for fuel as well... I already checked the fuel tank and it's deformed but not a whole 1".

If your car qualifies (VIN does as you say, and has the codes to warrant the replacement) and yet the dealer refuses to perform the recall, I'd contact Ford and get their take on this. You should not have to pay a penny out of pocket for a recall. I don't know what is up with your dealer, most LOVE recall work (it's instant $$ for them).

Glad it worked out. The dealer was correct on the recall. On mine, they inspected it, saw no issues and just flashed the software. I swapped my evap valve later. For $30 or so, I figured if was cheap insurance against all the fails I see here.

I too had the 18s32 recall done by dealer. No error codes, so they just flashed the pcm. Fast-forward a year and I get CEL with code P1450. I take it to dealer, they say evap valve, I say recall, they say no because recall was satisfied when flashing pcm, I said what about the physical valve issue of the recall, though - they offered a brick wall for head and that was it... Ford customer support was same offering. I'm not mechanically inclined and sadly paid $350 for the end repair. I guess I should have not brought it in for recall until the valve physically malfunctioned.

Simply put...........there are all kinds of ways the dealers can milk that recall stuff. Some don't do all of the work to split it up to get more warranty from Ford or to then claim other things wrong and diagnostics to fix them.

Another 5 or so reasons in this thread why dealerships never touch my cars.
