Bought a '16 SE Hatch a week ago. I got a good deal on the car, but coming from a '14 GTI with a downpipe, intake, and stage 2 ECU upgrade I was pretty underwhelmed by the performance and handling. [mecry] So far I ordered a rear sway from Steeda, a set of ST X coilovers and a Typhoon. Now I need to address the exhaust and tune. For the tune I'll probably go to Tom. He seems to be getting a lot of love in here. For the exhaust, I plan to go FSwerks header and possibly add the Stealth later. I emailed FSwerks about the FS029 header fitment and Raffi said "The only modification needed is to lengthen the flex pipe a few inches." My question is, what flex pipe, first of all. Do I have to buy one? Then, how do I lengthen it a few inches? [scratch] Once I get all these mods installed and working together, I'll assess the results and take it from there.

MK2 fs werks header has a downpipe you can purchase seperately, I'd just get a good shop to make you a custom downpipe for it, the fs werks one bangs on crossmemebr...although with rmm and upper mount, it bangs very little now...the downpipe it comes with is a few inches short so you would need to lengthen it, or else pull your exhaust back which will cause other problems. Its a race header so no 2nd 02 sensor, you will have to get tom to turn it off to prevent CEL Other then those issues, it's a great header!

JBurks fit one by moving the exh. forward a little, would have been better modified/replaced in the end like FFhb13 mentions.

Well, I don't want the exhaust banging on anything, so perhaps I should get a different one. Are there any other headers available that fit better?
As you read the stickies & what other header brands are out there, The fwerks header is the best one, just need to lengthen the flex a bit.

You say that even after rear motor mount and upper mount install it still bangs a little on the crossmember. How do I keep it from banging? That doesn't sound good.

You talk about getting a downpipe. If the header is only 3" short, are we talking a 3" downpipe?? What is the part # for the fswerks one? I see they have a flex pipe. Is that what you're talking about?

+ you'll want to get the stealth muffler w/ that header.
Why? Performance, sound, fit...?

Raffi from fswerks and FFhb13 said the same thing. Are we talking about a flex pipe that I purchase separately or does it come with the header? Next question, how do I lengthen said flex pipe?

Also, what about the OBX header? I don't see it on their site, but I've read about others using that one.

Your in the same boat as the using the fwerks header, You'll need to lengthen the flex-pipe, from the header to the any flex back system. The stealth is one of the better 2.5'' round mufflers out there, fits real tight (the flange is welded tightly to the case) 6'' diameter, performance, quiet & fits great. A muffler shop should be able to fab a flex that fits, have them weld a couple of flanges to a longer flex. IIRC you need to lengthen the fwerks flex 2''. I'm surprised that fwerks doesn't offer a flex for the mk3 cars.

Anyone know the correct length flex needed for using a fwerks header? We have flex's at work, just a matter of figuring out which on & finding a couple of flanges that work & have them welded.

^^^^^ I guess somebody should just start making a kit for the mk3 fswerks header [grinking]

Same boat, but I'd still have $250 in my pocket. More than that, the Fswerks doesn't even come with a flex apparently, the OBX does, albeit too short. Anyone know of any other problems going the mk2 OBX header route?

Yea, + it'd also depend on the header brand. Knowing the head flange thickness, the primary tube length & collector & flange thickness between the different headers.

The only thing that hold me on the MK2 fswerks headers is that most shop around me are not doing stainless welding.

and I'm not equipped for welding stainless.

Wow, you'd think they would be w/ all the cool/awesome ss systems out there for different cars & builds.
