My STI is still adequate in the snow around town on it's Michelins but once I switch to my 17" Hankook snows the car is almost a different car to drive especially on hard packed snow.

Top Gear posted an article about the RS today. It didn't really say much though.

Exclusive: up close with the new Focus RS - BBC Top Gear

What's the power?

"We're saying at least 320, y'know."

Are those all-American SAE horses or German pferdestärke?

"At least 320 - that's all I'm going to say."

Weight? Another shake of the head. Under five seconds for 0-62mph?

"Can't comment."

Dave Pericak is cleaving to the official corporate line, which is a bit of a tease. Not that he doesn't know the numbers perfectly well. He's head of the newly formed Ford Performance division that will in future take care of all hot Fords from the Fiesta ST to the GT supercar.

OK, let's try another tack. Here's Tyrone Johnson, engineering manager. What's the Nürburgring time?

"We use the Nürburgring for development because of the variety of corners. But we won't be posting a time. Same with 0-62mph here or quarter-mile times in the US. It's about feel, precision, not just the numbers. It's more complicated than just ‘We're the fastest.'"

I guess I just don't understand what the big secret is..just come out and say it already....They keep showing us pictures of the car and are showing it off all over the world but refuse to give us any new information on it. I've seen the car enough already..I want hard data....

they gotta get that hype machine rollin juuuuuust right

I've read elsewhere that the engineers don't actually know how much power it makes because it hasn't been verified and tested. Same for MPG. It wouls be nice to know the curb weight, but I have a feeling it'll be heavier than we'd all like it to be.

Production is still a year away so there are probably some numbers that aren't engraved in stone.

I believe that the exact numbers have little or no importance.

HP: approx. 330
weight: approx. 3400

What more does anyone need to know at this point?

I do hope that Ford underrates the HP.

Oh they will tune it low. Then they will push the Ford Racing Tune down the road.

Ford has just made it easier to unlock more power in some of its EcoBoost-powered performance cars. Available now through Ford Racing is Ford’s ProCal tool, which allows owners to calibrate the engine control unit at the touch of a few buttons.

2015 Ford Focus First Drive
ProCal was previously only offered as a part of various performance upgrade packages for a number of vehicles, including the last-generation Mustang and F-150. Now, Ford Racing is offering the ProCal programming handset as a stand-alone upgrade for $595. Ford says it has calibrations programmed for the Focus ST and Fiesta ST, and is currently working on programing for the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost 2.3. That new calibration should be ready by late next year. In stock form, the Mustang EB makes 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque and runs to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds.

I suppose your right..but it would be really nice to know how much its going to cost....because its if stupid expensive, not that I expect it to be, Id like to go buy something else. Price though, unfortunately, will probably be one of the last things to be announced.

Me too, but my primary concern is powerband.

If it doesn't make power to redline....

Me = [sadpanda]

I'm sure it will impress none the less. Still think I'd take an STi hatch over one though.

If it's really 330~340 HP, I believe that it has to make decent power on the top end (i.e. it can't be running out of breath at 5k).

I'd bet that the increase in HP (relative to the Mustang engine) will be because of an extended powerband rather than more torque.

^^^ but that would be the great thing, its a world car. Yes certain items are not available for the U.S. market. but if demand is good globally then the few who do get it in the U.S. will benefit from it being a global car. so if Americas demand is low but Asia's, Europe, and other regions are very demanding it will push aftermarket.

We will just have to go more international or have more places like BAT Inc. to import the parts for us.

Naaa...Id rather have an american AWD hatch, plus I think the Focus is a nicer car than the Imprezza..fit and finish wise. Though I dont know if they use nicer stuff in the STIs....I assume they must...but again I still think the RS will be nicer....
